Ride and Wine: Portage Bike - Riverside Wine to Towner's Woods - 8.0 Miles

Ride Name: 31 - Life is good... the river, the wine, and cycling on a summer evening
Trail: Portage Bike and Hike Trail: Riverside Wine (Crain Avenue Trailhead) to Towner’s Woods County Park
Rating: Beginner
Ride Type: Out and Back
Distance: 8.0+ miles
Map:

Tonight’s ride is one of our most popular summertime evening rides. We park in the north overflow parking lot of Riverside Wine and cycle a block south to the old Crain Avenue Bridge that we cross over to the Portage Bike and Hike. Our short level 8 mile ride takes us to Towner’s Woods County Park where we turn and return to Kent.

On our return, we enjoy Riverside Wine’s beautiful deck overlooking the Cuyahoga River. It's a very causal place with reasonable prices. You can taste a flight of wine for around $10. There are many cheese, fruit, cracker and snack plates you can purchase for around $10 - $15. A large variety of beer and wine is available.

Out and back rides are designed with the intermediate and advanced cyclist in mind. These rides cycle out of a trailhead to a set destination, typically 8-10 miles away. After a break, the riders cycle back to the departure trailhead.

Tonight’s ride travels at 10 mph. The ride is rated for casual cyclists who enjoy cycling 8-10 mph on mostly flat trails. The trail is packed limestone and relatively flat with minimal elevation changes. The ride should be a comfortable ride for both the beginner and experienced cyclist.

This ride is on the calendar of the Spin-off Cyclists . We encourage you to join us on this and other rides. We are a group of cyclists of all ages and abilities who cycle the trails of Northeast Ohio and surrounding areas for fun, health and friendship.

It said that the trail is packed limestone. Would it be smart to have a mountain bike? I just bought a new road bike.

I have a road bike and ride this trail with no problems. It is mostly and newly paved except a quartet mile of the trail near Towners Woods which is packed limestone. This area is literally in my backyard so it is nice to have this event so close to home!
