Portage Bike: Towner’s Woods – Crain Avenue – Peck Road - 5.2/17.0 miles

Ride Name: A Ride across Portage County
Trail: Portage Bike – Towner’s Woods – Crain Avenue – Peck Road – Towner’s Woods
Rating: Beginner, Intermediate
Ride Type: Double Back
Distance: 5.2/17.0 miles roundtrip

Mounting your saddle in the parking lot of Portage Park District’s Towner’s Woods Park, you head west across Ravenna Road onto the Portage Bike and Hike Trail. You pass Beckwith Orchard as you enter Kent. Following the trail along the Cuyahoga River, you arrive at the Crain Avenue trailhead. You turn your bike and trace your tire tracks back to Towner’s Woods.

Happy with a shorter ride… feel free to drop out. Up for a longer ride… continue cycling east on the Bike and Hike through the park. You travel rural Portage County and enter the city of Ravenna. Crossing through Ravenna, you find yourself in a rural setting as you arrive at the trail end at Peck Road. You turn and retrace your tracks back to Route 303.

Double back rides give cyclists flexibility on rides. Cyclists begin at the midpoint and cycle to the first destination. The group turns and cycles back to the start. Cyclists wanting a short ride end their ride. Cyclists up for a longer ride continue to the second destination and back to the midpoint. There you have it; a double back with two rides options!

Tonight’s ride travels at 10 mph and typically takes 2 hours including photo-ops and rest stops. The ride is rated for leisure cyclists who enjoy cycling 10-12 mph on flat trails with an occasional hill or elevation gain. The trail surface is mixed with areas of both asphalt and packed limestone. It is relatively flat with some moderate elevation changes. The ride should be a comfortable ride for the intermediate cyclist. It is ideal for a beginner cyclist who wants a small challenge.

This ride is on the calendar of the Spin-off Cyclists . We encourage you to join us on this and other rides. We are a group of cyclists of all ages and abilities who cycle the trails of Northeast Ohio and surrounding areas for fun, health and friendship.
