Metro Parks Summer Biking Spree Celebration Ride

Ride Name: A canal journey across the floating towpath to Lock 3
Trail: Towpath Trail - Snyder Avenue (Wolf Creek) Trailhead to Lock 3 Park
Rating: Beginner
Ride Type: Out and Back
Distance: 18.8 miles round-trip

The Summit Metro Parks is holding their inaugural Summer Biking Spree during July and August.  Join us on Sunday June 30 to kickoff the spree with a ride into downtown Akron. This will be similar to their very popular Fall Hiking Spree. Cyclists will earn a reward for completing designated rides on Summit Metro Parks Trails. Many of our July and August rides will be designated as routes for the Summer Biking Spree. Watch for this announcement in mid June.

We meet for this casual ride starting at the Snyder Road Trailhead in Barberton. We head north surrounded by the Towpath and Ohio and Erie Canal. Just south of Wilbeth Road, we pause to check out the blue heron rookery before continuing north through the factories reminding us of Akron’s industrial heritage.

Crossing under a rail trestle, we cycle onto the floating section of the Towpath as it crosses the shore of Summit Lake. We stop for photos and to take in the beauty on the boardwalk’s overlook. We continue north past the site of the former Summit Lake Park amusement park and cross under I-76/I-77 into Downtown Akron.

Our destination is Lock 3 Park for a soon to be announced event. As details become available, this meet-up will be updated. You can expect some food and fun times in Lock 3 Park with fellow cyclists before we return to the Snyder Avenue trailhead.

Out and back rides are designed with the intermediate and advanced cyclist in mind. These rides cycle out of a trailhead to a set destination, typically 8-10 miles away. After a break, the riders cycle back to the departure trailhead.

This ride is rated for leisure cyclists who enjoy cycling 10-12 mph on flat trails with an occasional hill or elevation gain. The trail surface is mixed with areas of both asphalt and packed limestone. It is relatively flat with some moderate elevation changes. The ride should be a comfortable ride for the intermediate cyclist.

This ride is on the calendar of the Spin-off Cyclists . We encourage you to join us on this and other rides. We are a group of cyclists of all ages and abilities who cycle the trails of Northeast Ohio and surrounding areas for fun, health and friendship.

By accepting this Spin-off Cyclists Bicycle Club event’s RSVP and attending this event, I have read and voluntarily agree to the RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT. I further agree that no oral representations, statements or inducement apart from the foregoing written agreement have been made. I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS DOCUMENT AND RELEASE.
