The weather has gotten colder. Snow and ice are on the trails. The warm sun seems like a distant memory. You can see your breath in the air. There are also many good things to celebrate about winter. The new year is a time to challenge yourself to be active and enjoy the snow, colder temps and natural beauty of our parks.
Through the winter, the Spin-off Cyclists, Akron Area Hiking and Movin’ Forward Weight Loss Support groups are collaborating to offer cures for cabin fever. Every other Saturday there are fun activities to see the parks at a slower pace and from a different perspective. Each offered with beginners in mind. It is your chance to be adventurous and experience something new.
January 19 – Ice skating at Lock 3 Park in Downtown Akron
The ice skating rink at Lock 3 Park in Downtown Akron is open through January. Today is the day to bring the kid in you back to life. You probably have not skated since you were in grade school. Wait, you have never skated?! Here is your opportunity to give it a whirl in a fun and safe setting. Ice skate rental is only $3 at the park
After an hour or so of skating, (until our ankles give out or we have lifted our butts off the ice way too many times) we call it a day for the ice. We are walking across the street to Lockview Restaurant and Bar. This casual eatery is famous for its sandwiches; most notable being their diverse selection of grilled cheese sandwiches. They also have a nice selection of soups, salads and appetizers at reasonable prices. Mmmmm… I fondly flashback to the grilled cheese and tomato soup at Washington Elementary on Fridays.
Future Cure from Cabin Fever Saturdays:
I know now that I need to practice skating more often!!! This was fun- I wasn't aware that there was a seasonal skating rink downtown!
