First Saturday Kirtan: Celebrating Guru Purnima

  • Jul 6, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Kirtan is group devotional chanting, often done in a call-and-response format, which makes the chants easy to learn. In July we'll be focusing  on Guru Purnima, one of India's most sacred festivals. Guru Purnima is actually each full moon of July, so we're celebrating it early. It is a day of gratitude to all great gurus who have blessed the world. Guru dispels the darkness of ignorance & infuses the light of awareness into our lives.  It is a day to clean the heart & mind for Self- realization. A couple guided meditations and stories about Guru Purnima will be offered in this blissful, calming evening.  A natural extension of yoga practice, chanting quiets the mind & opens the heart.
