First Saturday Kirtan: Jai Ma!

We'll be focusing on chants of Anandamayi Ma, the  Blissful Mother [masked]).  Ma did not write or lecture. She lived in the divine presence, moment to moment. Ma declared "The whole world is this body's home." Ma's greatest contribution was not what she did or said, but what she was. Laurel went to India in 1977 to be with Ma and spent the majority of 3 trips and 3 years in India with Anandamayi Ma. Chanting quiets the mind and opens the heart. Join us for an inspiring evening of sacred practices to awaken prana and connect with our radiant Self through chant, meditation & stories about Ma.

I've never done a yoga chant before. What should I bring? Yoga mat? Blanket? How long does it usually last?

Thank you for the questions, Dawn! Most folks sit in the chairs that are available, but there is space on the floor to sit if you prefer. The chants are typically short melodic phrases in Sanskrit which are done "call and response". We provide handouts with the words. We start at or about 7:00 and conclude around 9 to 9:15. This is a practice that is learned simply by doing it. In no time at all, the language will become very familiar. What should you bring? A willingsness to explore and experience the practice. We try to leave our burdens at the door with our shoes, but I have found that even when I am still troubled or preoccupied, the process of chanting is soothing and dispels worry. We leave any notion that "I don't have a good voice" at the door with our shoes. Since this is a practice and not a "performance", we just participate whole heartedly and easily. Laurel and I would like to introduce you to folks; it is a lovely group of companions.

The address is a date in Dayton Ohio. Can you please provide the street address so that we can find you. Otherwise it appears to be being held in the sanctuary of August 2nd Dayton Ohio. I'm pretty sure I wont be able to find that on my GPS. I'm already directionally challenged enough. lol

Thank you, Dawn, for catching that! I'm not sure why the glitch, but it was easy to fix.
