Message from Stack Overflow:

We've declared April 28, 2012 as the second annual Stack Overflow Meetup Day! Last year over 2,000 of you got involved. It was amazing! This year, we're calling on the entire Stack Exchange tech community* to double that number. We're reaching out to every hacker, programmer and designer in the Stack Exchange family to join their local Stack Overflow Meetup on April 28th.

All you have to do is RSVP and maybe leave a suggestion for where people in your town can meetup. Consider bringing your favorite project to share and get help with, hire a speaker, or have your members do Ignite-style talks where anyone gets a maximum of five minutes to present. No matter what you plan to do, be sure to spread the word! And take photos at your Meetup; we'll be featuring some of our favorite Meetup photos on the Stack Exchange blog.

Note: If your city or town has a group that's interested in meeting but can't do it on a Saturday, please feel free to host an SO Meetup anytime the preceding week. We chose a Saturday based on feedback from last year's attendees, but some people may prefer an after-work meetup, and that's perfectly fine!

And as a last little incentive... The top five Meetups with the most RSVPs and a venue picked out by April 9 will receive a little extra something from us at Stack Exchange HQ.

*Since our network has more than doubled in size during the past year, we're inviting not only Stack Overflow users, but also members of Super User, Server Fault, Programmers, Ask Ubuntu, Unix & Linux, Wordpress, Sharepoint, Game Development, Drupal Answers, DBA, Webmasters, IT Security, SQA, Cryptography, and Code Review! If you're a hacker or programmer of any type who uses one of our tech-related SE sites, please join us.

Join us for tech talks, drinks, or both!

Tech talks from 3:00-5:00pm at Projective Spaces.
(A couple of speakers with 15-20 minute talks followed by lightning talks by you, the attendees! Leave a comment below if you'd like to speak.)

Socializing at Onieals (http://onieals.com/soho/) from 5:00-7:30pm. It's just down the street from Projective:

Damn something came up today. I can't attend today. If anyone give a talk, and have PPT / PDF, mind to upload? Thanks. Have fun everybody!

Bobby Grace, product designer at Fog Creek, gave a talk about designing Trello for multiple devices. His slides are up here: http://blog.fogcreek.com/tr...

One of the other talks didn't have any slides, and I'll see if the third presenter has his slides online.

Two things to note - I can't attend until the evening due to sabbath observance, would be shame to miss. Also, last year I couldn't attend because I'm not old enough for a bar. It would be absolutely awesome if we could do this in the evening and somewhere kosher for under-21 users. I can't expect everyone to change everything around, but it's worth asking. Any thoughts?

@Yeukhon Wong and ircmaxell I would be happy to have each of you give a talk. There will be a few scheduled speakers, but there will be an hour or so for attendees who want to speak. Let's say 5-10 minutes for a talk, plus a couple minutes for Q&A? Topic of your choice. We'll have a projector if you want to use slides.

Thanks Laura. Unfortunately, I don't really have anything special to talk about (not good enough lol). Probably next year when my research is done :)

I am a amateur programmer, I have just over 150 points in stackoverflow. I was just wondering, whats the structure of the meeting. Do I need to pay any fee, to attend this meet? Will it be informal? Is there going to be talks or project demo's? I am pretty sure, I can't present anything, I will just come to see and meet some of great talents. Just wondering, how this works?

Hi, Karthik. There is no fee or cover charge to attend this event. It is pretty informal; we'll have several talks/presentations at Projective Space from 3-5pm, and then some socializing at Onieals bar from about 5pm-7pm. You're welcome to come to one or both parts of the meetup (they're about a 7 or 8 minute walk away from each other). There's a little bit of structure, but it's mostly an opportunity for users to meet each other in real life, network, and socialize.

My first thought had been to use General Assembly as a location if we wanted to have speakers. They have another event booked in their space for the 28th, though. Does anyone have suggestions for other spaces that could hold ~75 people? If you're interested in doing a lightning talk, please leave a comment with your topic, as well.

I can do a lightning talk or two. I just released a new library, so I can introduce that (https://github.com/ircmaxell...), I can talk (quickly) about OOP Design (SOLID vs STUPID design). I can also talk about Technical Debt, or handling Plugins, or Becoming a better developer.

Whatever you guys want... (Check my blog for some ideas: http://blog.ircmaxell.com/ )

@Domenic It'd be great if you want to do a lightning talk. 5-10 minutes long, with a couple minutes for Q&A if we have time.

We're a little more than two weeks away from our second annual Meetup Everywhere! I hope everyone's planning is going well. Just wanted to remind everyone that I'll be sending a little extra something to the largest meetup groups, and I'll be contacting organizers of those groups in the next couple days - so help us get the word out, and you might receive a care package from Stack Exchange!
