JSON Deep Dive Part 3 of 3: Asynchronous Ajax using JQuery Deferred

Topics/Speakers:

Jeff Fox, Senior Software Engineer at [X+1], presents the final part of the three part deep dive into the world of JSON, the JavaScript Object Notation. For this meetup, we will focus on asynchronous data operations and use the powerful JQuery Deferred object. This is a hack night and after a brief intro deck, we will be spending time working on further demonstrating asynchronous data operations on our dynamic Ajax driven HR Dashboard portal app from part 2.

Prerequisites:

Bring the following if you wish to participate in the hack:
- Laptop
- Text Editor or IDE (I.E. Eclipse, TextMate, etc.)
- Local web server (WAMP or MAMP to test loading of remote data)

Venue:

Stamford Innovation Center
175 Atlantic Street
Stamford, CT. 06901

We will initially meet up during the iCenter's Hacker Space meetup and then break off on our own around 7pm.

Format:

6:00-7:00 pm - Food and networking at iCenter's HackerSpace.

NOTE: Those in need of help setting up their laptops to participate in the hack should seek out the meetup organizers or fellow attendees for assistance during this time before the meetup formally begins. We'll be jumping right into the hack once we start.

7:00 pm - Meetup Overview and Introductions

7:15 pm - Asynchronous data operations and JQuery Deferred code demonstration and hack. Bring your laptop and follow along and even try out new ideas.

8:30 pm - Wrap up

The slide deck for this meetup is posted to SlideShare: http://www.slideshare.net/jfox015/json-ajax-deferred. The link to the Github repo with the nights source code is in the deck and will be populated shortly as well. Thanks to all who attended and we'll see you next month.

Thanks for joining John. It's a powerful option in the JQuery toolkit. If you happen to come up with some cool hacks, let us know. We'll happily pimp them out for you.
