Introduction to Ajax

  • Aug 28, 2008 · 7:00 PM
  • theMechanism

Margaret Michele Waldman (Sovereign Sites L.L.C.) will briefly discuss Ajax and present a number of coding variations, including rolling your own, using a JavaScript library and using Xajax. The examples will demonstrate how to consume XML, HTML and JSON.

Prior to the discussion, there will be a brief period for announcements. Afterwards, there will be an optional "show and tell" session. Show off sites you're currently working on and get design feedback and technical assistance.

Thanks to Dave and Jeffrey for hosting, they also seem to be knowledgeable which can not be said for the presenter last night. lacked organization and explaining the code on the presenter's part (almost felt like the attendees had more valuable input into the subject). in any event looking forward to future meets to get a better feel for the overall group.

btw, for those interested, you may replace the 'writing ajax from scratch' with the zxml.js file located in the url below. real good way to start without getting deep into actual libraries or architectures.

Presenter was pretty disorganized and lacked focus.

Having advertised "Ajax present & discuss coding variations." The presenter was late, not prepared, and focused much time showing the code on the screen. The presenter didn't know the advantages or disadvantages of "Traditional v/s Modern" Ajax coding techniques.

It was not truly an introduction to this prgramming technique.

The speaker knew the subject matter, but needs to work on relating it to new comers and speaking clearly. I was totally lost as to what the speaker was trying to say. Sorry but it was a disappointment.
