The Hired Guns are seeking a Lead Information Architect for our client, a sports website. This is a fulltime position based in Connecticut. In this position, you will lead the Information Architecture discipline within the organization to create a fan-centric website and web applications. Your work should be experiential, scalable, multidimensional, intuitive and easy to use. You will partner with all New Media divisions including Design, Technology, Editorial, Video, Marketing and Analytics. Needless to say, strong cross-functional management skills are a must.

In this role, you will collaborate with front-end design and development teams to create information structures and hierarchies and systems for storing, cataloging and serving all types of content and navigation systems in order to provide the best fan experience across multiple digital media platforms. Projects will range from refining small site components to carrying out complete site overhauls. You will be responsible for producing user interaction flows, site maps, wireframes, and functional specification documentation.

The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of directly related information architecture experience working on large, complex websites with diverse user bases. You will have a deep understanding and experience with usability test design, implementation and analytics. This position will report to both a VP for New Media and a Design Director.

Be prepared to share annotated wireframes, site maps, UI specifications, discussion guides, etc. to demonstrate your work.


  • 8 + years' experience in Information Architecture or directly related areas (e.g. design, strategy or behavioral science)
  • Strong knowledge of site design and usability principles, issues and techniques
  • Ability to organize large bodies of information
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team including designers, researchers, product developers and analytics experts
  • Ability to analyze customer needs using both qualitative and quantitative sources and to define strategies for meeting those needs
  • Exceptional attention to detail in design, flow and overall process to maintain brand integrity
  • Ability to clearly articulate your ideas with excellent written, verbal and graphic style
  • Well-organized, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously


  • Translating consumer needs, business rules and practices into functional requirements
  • Working with cross-functional teams to create
    • Site Maps
    • User Interface specifications / wireframes & functional specs (field definitions, taxonomy, error messages)
    • Navigational schemes
    • Categorization and topic flows
    • Content requirements
    • Use cases / User scenarios
    • site concepts and interfaces in line with functional requirements and style guide standards
    • updates to current site pages
  • Collaborating with the design team to ensure fluid transition from conceptual or functional design to graphic design.
  • Designing usability test plans and conducting ongoing usability testing and assessment.
  • Developing data collection strategies on site visitor behavior with Analytics team (e.g. A/B testing, multi-variable testing, etc)
