How about going Sailing this Friday night?
I have been doing these party sails for over a year now and they have been a ton o fun!
Sailing in the evening usually runs from exciting to relaxing all in one night. You can decide how much you want to help sail or how much you want to sit and watch. But most folks like to at least take a turn on the tiller and help pull the strings!
We usually don't turn on the motor. That means an exciting sail out of the slip and a wonderfully quiet glide back into the still marina.
We meet at the dock in Berkeley and spend a little time getting to know one another while we have a glass of wine and share snacks! When everyone is ready we sail out and watch the sunset and then the lights of the city light up.
Sometimes it is windy and spray blows across the boat. Sometimes it is calm and we sit and drink more wine and watch the moonrise. Everyone who wants to gets a chance to steer the boat and learn the basics of sailing. We get back to the dock between 9 and 9:30 - usually :)
I am a licensed United States Coast Guard Master 50 GRT's and a registered US Sailing instructor. I have sailed all kinds of boats in all sorts of situations and conditions. I will make sure you stay safe and have fun!
A moonlight sail isn't a sailing lesson but it can be a great start to see how wonderful sailing can be.
There is nothing like being powered by the wind in one of the most beautiful places in the world. It is an amazing experience.

$30 and food and wine / drinks to share. Please bring snacks to share with the group - things that are easy to eat like finger foods, cheese and crackers, fruit, berries, cookies etc. You know, cookies and brownies and things like cookies and brownies. Did I mention cookies and brownies? For reals - just think about what you would like to pass around and eat with your fingers :) Anything EXCEPT PICKLES or OLIVES!!!
The $30 donation is on a sliding scale for folks who would happily pay if they could but for whatever reason can't right now. Please send me an e-mail if the full donation is an issue. Sailing is a basic human right!
The head or bathroom aboard Feral is called 'The Bucket'. There are clean bathrooms in the marina. It's not a super long sail so you can probably hold it. But people do use 'The Bucket' and usually seem to enjoy getting back their roots. (Guys can use the big bucket over the side if they feel adventurous - and we aren't still at the dock!)
There is a porta potty for emergencies. But, um, you know...it is harder to clean and generally not as much fun as 'The Bucket'! But it is there if it is needed :)
For sure wear clothes. Warm clothes. Even on the warmest days it is still chilly out on the water. Bring layers and something water and wind proof if you have it. Ski clothes are an excellent option. There is plenty of room down below to stow extra gear.
I have life jackets for everyone.
