It’s been a while since we’ve had a StartupSB meetup… We’ve been busy and I hope you have too!
I wanted to reconnect and announce 3 upcoming StartupSB events and mention a couple of upcoming noteworthy local startup events and opportunities. Just a warning... this might be a long digest like email!
StartupSB will be presenting programs (or meeting up) in April, May and June.
Here’s the schedule:
6 to 8pm @ ESB 1001 on the Campus of UCSB
StartupSB Gets Schooled about the Technology Management Program at UCSB!
Hosted by the Technology Management Program at UCSB (thanks Mike Panesis, Bob York and Cassity Ming)
Meet the TMP program and it's students, professors, sponsors and the teams involved in the New Venture Competiton. (If you are interested in talking briefly about your UCSB related venture please let me know.)
6 to 8pm @ LogicMonitor
SAAS Business Models and Online Customer Acquisition
Hosted by Logic Monitor (Thanks Kevin, Steve and Natasha!)
More info available soon.
StatupSB Demo Night during First Thursday!
6 to 9pm @ Workzones
Hosted by Workzones (Thanks Lisa!)
10 to 12 teams will demo products in a rapid-fire format where each venture gets 6 minutes (similar to DEMO). We’ve got a couple of teams lined up but, but we are looking for more! Email me with a short description if you are interested. Presentations should be demos of working products. They can be super polished DEMO God like presentations, or completely raw presentations of technology. I’d love to have a mix. Art, Music, Culture related ventures, especially art ventures, are encouraged to apply! It is First Thursday after all!
More info on all 3 events will be updated on Meetup and posted on a SOON to be released StartupSB website… seriously… it’s almost ready… A big thanks to Darryl Eaton for jumping in to help out!
Startup Weekend Santa Barbara Update
The next Startup Weekend Santa Barbara will be tentatively held on October 4, 5 and 6 at Workzones and other Venues in Paseo Nuevo! We'll be going BIG on this one and need more organizers and a event volunteer team to work on the next one.
Email [address removed] to connect with Jim McGaw, Syed Asif Iqbal and I, if you are interested in helping.
With that said, more Startup Weekend events are coming up in the greater SB area! We are excited to see these events and opportunities grow in our community.

Santa Barbara now is represented as a region within Startup America and Startup California. Thanks to Gideon Rubin, Jonathan DeLong and myself (can I thank myself?) and the individuals involved in the kickoff event last year for getting things started!
Check out our presence on the Startup California Website and email me with any additions you’d like to see to the links and resources listed. This is a work in progress, and we are happy to add to it!
Stay tuned for more of a presence within the Santa Barbara ecosystem, and some additional benefits from being tied in with a larger network of entrepreneurs.
If you haven’t registered your company with Startup America, please visit the Startup America website at www.s.co and register! There is a long list of great benefits for being a part of Startup America.
We are also looking for others to get involved with the team to help spread the word, put together events, and manage our content and presence online! Contact Kyle ([address removed]), or Gideon, if you are interested.
MIT Enterprise Forum
On Wednesday, April 17th the MIT Enterprise Forum presents The Rise of the Social Entrepreneur – What it Means for the Future of Business.
Looks like a great event! Hope to see you there!
Visit www.mitcc.org for more information and event registration.
Looking for some mentoring for your online or mobile startup venture or idea. Syed Asif Iqbal has put together an amazing group of mentors that you’ll be paired up with based on your need for specific help on startup related topics such as product development, business model development, marketing to operations, and more!
Check out Meethour.com for more information!
I’m sure I missed many Startup related events in Santa Barbara… so shoot me an email if you have something you would like to announce, or add to the calendar we are building in to the new StartupSB.com website.
Hope to see you at the upcoming events and keep an eye out for StartupSB in the Community as we continue to Startup Santa Barbara!
Hope to see you all soon.
Cheers and Happy Friday,
Kyle and the growing StartupSB team
