Regularizaton Regression & Machine Learning Tricks with R & John Myles White

This will be a very exciting joint meetup with the newly formed Data Science DC group centered around a presentation by John Myles White on some tricks for solving machine learning problems with more than a few predictors. John is a Ph.D. student and is currently working on a new O'Reilly book called "Machine Learning for Hackers".

Whereas useR-DC's focus will continue to revolve around R, its use, applications, and community the Data Science DC group is focused more around Predictive Analytics, Applied Statistics and Machine Learning using multiple tools, languages and techniques. This group is a great addition to the DC Tech/Data community.

We're still working to finalize a location but very likely to be near a Metro station in Downtown DC. Things will kickoff at 6:30 with refreshments and networking and we'll start the presentation at 7:00pm.

Hard to listen from back seats - audio system would be helpful. Topic very interesting, I 've had a similar project in mind for some time, so the presentation was very helpful.

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
