Jennings Forest New Year Enthusiasm Paddle
We paddlers spend a lot of time dreaming about streams and rivers we'd like to explore so Let's make the first paddle of 2013 in a peaceful place. No better time than the start of a new year, to invigorate and feed your spirit, and renew the mind, body and soul. The launch is about an hour and half drive from St Augustine. Wildlife galore and simply a mellow paddle. This is my favorite paddle. It never gets old. This place is rustic so make sure and bring necessities, lunch, toilet paper etc. I will have bottled water and gator aid. There is a $2.00 usage charge for the iron ranger honor box. so be sure to bring exact change. No facilities, just the great wide open.
Kayak Rentals
We have kayaks for rent for anyone who needs one at $40.00 each and they must be pre paid via pay pal. Just pay pal $40.00 instead of $10.00
$10.00 to bring you own yak. RSVP Required
Past years and old times never come back.
What comes back is a new day
So Let's Yak!
BELOW GO THE INFO
The state forest protects the headwaters of Black Creek and its tributaries, including the North Fork of Black Creek and Yellow Water Creek. It also protects sand hills that are in remarkably good condition with healthy populations of wire grass and longleaf pine. The west side of Yellow Water Creek is one of the few places in northeast Florida where natural seepage slope communities remain in good ecological health.
Wildlife viewing:
Species found here include green tree frog, pine warbler, bobwhite quail, red-shouldered hawk, eastern cottontail rabbit, gray fox and white-tailed deer. Red-cockaded woodpecker colonies are located on adjacent Camp Blanding. Listed species found here include Bartram’s ixia and Black Creek crayfish.
From St Augustine take State Rd. 16 to Penney Farms. Turn right at 218. When you get to Middleburg and cross Blanding Blvd. continue on 218 about 5 miles. You will see a Kangaroo on your left in Clay Hill. Just past that about a half mile you will see Nolen Rd on your right. Take Nolen about 3 miles to Hattie Nolen rd. all the way to the end. When you enter the forest continue straight on the dirt road to the end.
Here is the link to the forest. Go to the property map. We will be launching from Indian Ford. Launch #4

Hey folks. Teresa suggest that we eat after the paddle at Cedar River Seafood. Great idea! Just to let anyone that's interested know.

OK then, still wondering about the crack of dawn put in. In January there might be a 20 degree difference between 9 and 11am - hard to dress for that sort of temperature change in a kayak. Why not start later in the morning? Also, if no pick up, what does the $10 fee cover?

Hi Peter and welcome. This will be a turn around. There is a slight drift, but nothing strong at all. Very easy, relaxing and quiet paddle.

Is this a round trip deal or will we have a pickup point ... don't like paddling the round trip if there is significant current to fight. Thanks!
