SHUG 3. Introduction to Cloudera Impala - James Kinley

We are happy to invite you to the third meeting of Stockholm HUG. The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 11th, 2013 at 18:00 at Spotify Office (Birger Jarlsgatan 61, 11tr, Stockholm). This time, the presentation will be given by our special guest, James Kinley from Cloudera.

Title: Introduction to Cloudera Impala

Speaker: James Kinley (Cloudera)

Abstract:

Cloudera Impala is a modern SQL engine for Hadoop. Impala provides fast, interactive SQL queries directly on your data stored in HDFS and HBase. This talk gives an overview of Impala, it's architecture and internals, and compares it to other systems such as Apache Hive and Google Dremel.

James Kinley is an EMEA Solutions Architecture at Cloudera, based in the UK. He has been using Hadoop since 2010 and has a background in cyber security.

Additional information

Free pizza and beverages will be available for the participants during the meetup.

Note: please RSVP to this meetup, since we need to put everybody on a guest list for entering the Spotify office. The event will be held in the cafeteria of the Spotify office, so don’t go to the normal entrance but to the 11th floor.

The door will be open at 17:30. Because of fire regulations, we need to keep a list of everybody in the building, so please make sure that you get your name ticked off the list at the entrance or (in case of a +1), make sure that the person at the door puts your name on the list.

See you soon!

Simply loved the session, but the actual features and performance of Impala will be measured when it gets launched for cloud!

It is better to keep the door opened a little bit longer. It is very disappointed someone tried to get there immediately after work, but can not get in!

Hi, we recorded the seminar (it will be published later) and slides are available here (http://files.meetup.c...).

Unfortunately we can not leave the door open all the time (the company security policy), nor have a person that will be constantly watching for guests coming late. I checked if somebody was still waiting even around 18:20.. We even started the presentation a bit later (around 18:15) to facilitate people who come later than expected.

I am really sad, if somebody could not enter the office (even if this person comes late). If this may happen in the future, please let us know earlier, so that somebody will come to the door to open it a given time.
