Stockholm City Cycles club

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • From the 1st April until the end of October you can use your City Cycle card, which costs 250kr (if you renew or use your SL travel card)

We are going to try again this summer to get a City Cycle Club going.

We will aim to do regular weekend cycle runs, get your Cycle card in advance using the information below, then add yourself to the event.

    or bring your own bike

OK, here are the facts, and the best and cheapest way to get your card.

Invest in a Stockholm City bikes card.

It costs just 250 SEK, and the card lasts until the end of October.

Great value.. as to get a 3 day tourist card it costs 160 SEK, but you get use of it all summer.

To get a summer card, you can do the following, making use of your SL transport card.

You even get a free helmet.

    Go to

    www.citybikes.se

    Then choose

    Ladda ditt Accesskort här

Complete the information, using the number on the back of your SL card

Choose Vidara until you get to step 4
    Tick the boxes

    Försäkring: 0,

    and

    Hämtar hjälm själv: 0,-

Pay by credit card and that is it, your SL card is active and can be used to get out a Cycle.

Once you have done so, add yourself to this event. Once we have a group of us, we will schedule the first event.

For Iphone and Android smartphone users there is an app called Stockholm City Bikes, this is excellent and not only does it tell you, by using GPS, where the nearest Bike rental is, but whether there are bikes sat waiting to be rented, and even if there are empty spaces for bikes to be returned.

You will receive an email within 48 hours saying when your free cycle helmet can be collected.

My recommendation is to purchase a cycle lock that you carry around with you, in the event the cycle is stolen whilst you have it out on loan, then you are liable, so going into a 7-eleven whilst having the bike means you can.

The rules of the cycle loans are as follows

You may loan out one cycle for up to 3 hours. If you check it back in at one of the many places around the city and then immediately take it out on loan again you get a further 3 hours.

You must return the cycle by 10pm at night.

The bike can be taken on the ferry from Slussen to Gröna lund, but you have to pay 40 SEK, so better to cycle round.

Does anyone want to go for a bike ride around Djurgården this weekend? I am open to day and time suggestions.

Has anyone been able to pay for this using a foreign credit card? Mine won't work and their customer service doesn't know anything. I never got or needed a swedish credit card before this.

Those of you with Smartphones there is an App both from the Apple Store and the Play Store called Stockholm City Bikes (the one I use has an icon with a bike against a green background). Suggest you download this.

It is great for seeing where there are bikes available, where the nearest bike station is and also very importantly, where there are spaces to give back your bikes.

As Daniel suggested, owning your own bike lock which you carry around with you is a great idea, meaning you don't always need to put your bike into a station if you go inside somewhere. Get a good one though, as I think if your bike gets stolen you get charged.

I had a card last year and it was great. I like the idea of the bike lock though even though I never had a problem. So say you start at Sodra Station, you can then bike from there to Slussen and switch bikes if yours isn't comfortable. Then you can get almost all the way to Benelli Park from there without even peddling since it's "downhill" and you get good speed. The bike ride to Djurgarden is great and there's a station at the bridge. The key is to learn where all the bike stations are. The 3 hour timer is not a problem then at all.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
