Greetings fellow stock investors!
Good news, bad news...
Good news - we have a great agenda put together for our next meeting on Stock Investing. We will dive deeper on evaluating and screening stocks on specific financial fundamental criteria, exploring WHY specific criteria OUGHT to indicate potential for an increase in the price of that stock. This will touch a bit on financial statements (although we will have a separate dedicated session on financial statement analysis and SEC filings at a later date).
Bad news - we have been unable to secure a location for our Meetup this coming week and thus have rescheduled our Meetup for Thursday, July 18 (no Meetup this week!). Thanks to Melisa and Rick for location/venue suggestions (our our location at GSU Brookhaven closed effective June 1). I have a few good leads on a location/venue for our group and am optimistic that we will be back on track next month.
After the July Meetup, I expect to be on a schedule for a Meetup on every 3-4 weeks to cover the following topics:
Stock Screening, Evaluation and Selection:
- Stock Screening
- Fundamental Analysis (financial analysis, financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and statement of shareholder's equity - AND FOOTNOTES!!), SEC filings)
- Technical Analysis (Price & Volume, indicators, chart patterns)
- Structural Criteria
(market breadth, health)
(size of portfolio, concentration vs. diversification, risk management, turnover, hedging, taxes)
(performance calculation, attribution, benchmarking)Liquidity Analysis
(behavioral, cognitive and emotional aspects of investing - and how to combat them)
(Indices, ETFs, weighting schemes)Efficient Market Theory
(Modern Portfolio Management, Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM),
Investing for "income"
(dividend paying common stocks, preferred stocks, individual bonds, REITs, MLPs, BDCs, CEFs, etc.)Other Assets
(commodities, currencies, bonds)
International Investment Opportunities
As you can see, we have no shortage of great topics to cover! That said, my primary goal is to help you improve your investment process to i) evaluate and select stocks given the prevailing market conditions and 2) assemble a portfolio - all geared towards generating superior returns that allow you to compound wealth. As always, I welcome (encourage!!) you to share your thoughts, ideas, questions, suggestions and preferences with me.
