Greetings to all and Happy New Year!
It has been a while since we last convened a meeting of the AAII Stock Investing Subgroup. As we embark on a new year and a challenging market environment (isn't it always challenging??), I wanted to share my thoughts on our meetings for 2010. Here is what I would like to propose:February
- Presentation on the 60 stock screens tracked by AAII (growth, value, etc.) over the past 12 years and how to use stock screening and portfolio building to generate superior investment results. This is an updated version of the presentation I gave to the AAII Atlanta chapter in September 2008.March
- Fundamental Analysis - how to analyze stocks after initial stock screening. April
- Valuation Analysis - how to value companies and use valuation metrics (e.g., Price-to-earnings, Price-to-book, PEG ratios, etc.) in your investment processMay
- Technical Analysis - an introduction on how to use the price and volume data of stocks to analyze supply and demand by investors for a stock and how to incorporate technical analysis (including trend analysis, moving averages and some basic technical indicators) into your investment process.
In addition, I would like to spend some time each meeting (after our first one) to analyze one (1) AAII screen in particular.
Let me know your thoughts. I will post the Meetup dates shortly and send you an email to RSVP.
I also wanted to bring to your attention the monthly chapter meeting for our "parent" organization (AAII) this coming Wednesday, Jan 20 at the Cobb Galleria (details below). Dave Fry, noted author and investment professional will be discussing how to build your own portfolio with hedge-fund using Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) as building blocks. We also have a member-led bonus discussion which will highlight how to use insider (officers and board members of companies) selling and buying data to improve your stock investing results. Register in advance for $10 at http://www.meetup.com/AAII-Atlanta/calendar/12054258/
or $15 at the door.
Please email or call me if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing all of you often in 2010!

Dave Fry will discuss how the do-it-yourself investor can construct a personal portfolio using Exhange Traded Funds (ETFs) that utilizes many of the strategies and reaps many of the benefits achieved by hedge funds (and will demystify hedge funds in the process). One of the alluring notions about ETF investing is the ability to identify, invest and profit from larger investment trends (at the macro, sector or industry level), while minimizing the risk that comes with a particular company or stock. Dave will show us how to utilize multiple asset classes (including stocks, bonds, commodities, currencies and cash(!)) and a timing strategy as part of a powerful global investment strategy.Reasons to Attend This Meeting
? Demystify hedge funds, understand their popularity and learn how they incorporate multiple asset categories into your investment approach
? Learn about Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and how to assemble your ?hedge fund? portfolio using ETFs to achieve better returns with less risk and without exotic strategies or leverage
? Learn ETF timing techniques for both conservative and aggressive ETF portfolios that can take advantage of both bullish and bearish conditions across the globe.
