I think this one of the best meetings we have had.

It looks as though I'm going to have to back out as well. I looked forward to the discussion on this one. This wasn't a book I was looking forward to, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I believe it will lead to some lively conversations. Enjoy your discussion. For Kristi, Kathy, Kevin & CherylAnn - I will be sending out the step down message later this evening. I will be there for a last meeting with y'all next month for my final meeting.

It was a great discussion last night. Thanks to everyone who came. We had 11 members who enjoyed a fabulous meal at The Birchwood, in their private dining area. I think we have found another great place that suits our needs as a quieter venue for our discussions. But bring a sweater - it was chilly in that room!!

Very good meeting this month. Enjoyed the book, discussion, restaurant and people.

Doris Lessing passed today. I am glad to hear she died peacefully in her sleep, at age 94. Love her work. Have any of her books been read by the club? I don't recall.

Tracey! I LOVE the Martha Quest series. I was thinking the first one would make a good book club book, the golden notebook is a little long.

can I still vote on the books?? I did not receive the e.mail. thanks

    November 10, 2013

    • Kathie

Voting was open to those who attended last month's meeting. People of the Book got the most votes, and will be a future month's read. :)

Kathie: I voted. I'm sorry if you did not receive my email. I must have done something wrong. Did not intend to ignore you.

    November 8, 2013

    • Kathie

I did get your vote and I did count it. I neglected to post that I received your vote, my mistake. :)

      November 9, 2013

  • Kathie

Still waiting on a few people to cast their votes for the next book. So far, only Pat, CherylAnn, and Diane have cast their votes. Will wait till the end of the week, and will go with whatever votes I've received by then, so please vote soon if you want to have a say in what we read in January. :)

I have been out of state and haven't been paying attention properly. I apologize for not voting in a timely manner! I trust all of you to pick something excellent though and broaden my literary horizons!

      November 7, 2013

    • Kathie

Not a problem, Kevin. It was my fault we didn't get to vote at the last meeting. We chose People of the Book. Hope you enjoy it and can join us that month.

I'd love to come since I missed the last one (was in Poland/Italy). This month I'll be on a cruise. See you all in December!

Hi, all. We still need a moderator for this month's meeting. Remember, the moderator gets to recommend books from which we pick our next selection. Do you have books you'd like to see the group read? Step up and be our moderator. It's easy, no stress, questions and discussion points are readily available online. Thanks!

    Apologies, I will be overseas.
I recommended this book and I hope you all like it. The author has a new book out called 'Americanah', about her experiences coming to America to study and live.....it sounds good also!

I am so sorry I am going to miss this one, I really like this book, and I reread it, and was looking forward to discussing it. But the meeting is the same night, and time, as a book related event at the Studio@620: he League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area invites members and the public to a Conversation Cafe--community in dialogue event--centered around the future of libraries in St. Petersburg. Anyway, I just heard about it but it sounds like it could be important to libraries, and to St. Pete, so I thought I'd better be there.

I know you are going to have a great discussion about a great book, and I am sorry to miss it.

I've never attended a book club meeting before and am excited to come to the November meeting. I'll order the book right away! I have a few questions, though. Do I pay the $1 fee at the meeting and where do you usually meet? Thanks!

    September 30, 2013

    • Kathie

Welcome to our group, Julie! We meet at a different restaurant every month, that is posted on the event page. You pay your $ when you come to the meeting. :)

I am enjoying this book immensely. I don't recall it being a previous selection of this group, if it was, I'm glad for the opportunity to read it now.

I really liked this book when I read it the first time, and it was already a book for this same book club previously, at a book club meeting I attended a couple of years ago. Deja vu?
