Contra dancing has come to Farmington!
Contra dance events are open to all, regardless of experience. They are family friendly (age 13 and up), and alcohol consumption is not part of the culture. Dances begin with a beginner level instruction for up to half an hour before the dance.
Generally a leader, known as the caller, will teach each individual dance just before the music for that dance begins. During the introductory "walk through" period, participants learn the dance by walking through the steps and formations, following the caller's instructions.
Music will be provided by a live band. One who attends a contra dance does not need to bring their own partner, nor should they expect to dance every dance with the same partner. In the short break between individual dances, women and men invite each other to dance. If you decline an invitation, etiquette says you should sit out that dance.
The dances will be from 1to 4pm (12:30 for beginners)
Clean, smooth soled shoes (shoes that won't stick to the floor) required. No street shoes should be used on the wood dance floor. Wear comfortable clothing.
Refreshments will be served at intermission.
Admission - $10 for adults $5 for students
Come on gentlemen...you can do this too... All dances are taught. This is a very very beginner friendly dance. Another one is Howell on the third weds. I will post those, just couldn't go this month.
Hey Folks, our group is on the Meetup home page right now! Check it out! They used one of the pictures I posted from the Contra Dance Sunday.

This is too much fun... come on out and support a good cause. Everyone can do this - lots of fun and laughter. I encourage you to try this... if you really can't tolerate it - then leave. You aren't committed for any certain amount of time.
