The purpose of the group is to give and receive individualized support in going after our goals, dreams, and wishes. We will be reading and doing the exercises from Barbara Sher's book "Wishcraft". The group will function as a "buddy system" (how many of you have bought more than one self-help book only to find your efforts on completing the exercises in the book peter out?)
Not ready for weekly meetings with assignments? JOIN THE MEETUP GROUP ANYWAY, networking parties (for career changers and dreamchasers) and Idea Parties are in the works, which anyone can attend, and you can stay posted on those by joining.
I decided to start this group because I agreed with the principle of "Success Teams", people giving each other the kind of support they rarely get anywhere else. I also enjoyed the very down-to-earth approach: the headline on the Success Teams website is "How to get what you want even if you have no goals, no character, and you're often in a lousy mood".
Check out www.barbarasher.com (including the blog and discussion forum) and www.shersuccessteams.com to get a sense of her approach.
Having been around the self-help and personal growth block, I found this extremely refreshing, as well as her principle that you don't have to FIX yourself to get what you want! Phew! You may have to do some uncomfortable things but at root you design your program around exactly who you *are*.
Who should join this group? People who have put their dreams on the back burner for "practical" reasons, or people who don't know what their dreams ARE but figure they must have them hidden somewhere. People who want to make changes in their lives, or know they have potential or gifts that they're not using. Or people who are living lives they love, and want to mentor others! People who are prepared to give and receive support, and to make a commitment to completing the readings/exercises (but we definitely help each other if we happen to get stuck!)
IF YOU WILL BE ATTENDING YOUR FIRST EVER MEETING: Please note that you are expected to complete at least some of the readings/exercises from Wishcraft that we have covered at previous meetings. I am not strict on this; the most important thing is willingness to participate i.e. attending meetings regularly, helping others and taking steps towards your own goals. However, it is important that you be familiar with the principles by which we run the group and reading the book is a great way to do that.
At the very minimum, contact me by email if you plan on attending your first Success Team meeting; I prefer to be able to speak to you and see where you're at and if this group is a good fit for you (it is a good opportunity for you to determine the same thing).
Also, if you have a specific career or life goal you want the group to help you work on, a weekly process that we do is committing to do the smallest next step towards your goal before the next meeting. (And supporting each other if it happens that we *don't* do it before the next meeting.) So you can put some thought into what that goal might be. And if you don't have a goal, your goal might be "to define a goal to work on with the Success Team". :)
Please also read the group guidelines posted in the Files section of this Meetup group.
