CHANGE, GROWTH, AND PLANNING: Adapting Our Cities to Thrive in a Dynamic World

Why is it that our city keeps considering development proposals? What happens if we don't embrace change? What dilemmas do we face as we consider change, growth and planning in our city? Helping us to think about these issues will be our guest presenters, Don Weden and former Sunnyvale Mayor John Howe. Don Weden spent 34 years with the Santa Clara County planning department and was the Principal Planner for the Comprehensive Planning Section of the Santa Clara County Planning Office. Since his retirement, Mr. Weden has taken on the role of an unpaid community advisor and educator, giving numerous presentations that encourage local communities to prepare for the changes and challenges coming our way in the years ahead; he gave a thought-provoking talk to our club a few years ago on the challenges posed by the major demographic shifts headed our way. John Howe served on the Sunnyvale City Council from[masked] after serving six years as a planning commissioner, and served as Mayor in 2004. He has lived in Sunnyvale since 1977.
