Same here. I didn't bother joining the waiting list because of how many people were signed up already. Disappointing to say the least.

I had hoped never to have to write an email like this, but certain few insensitive, irresponsible members have forced the issue.

Last Sunday we had a Meetup at Yoshi.  It was to be our last Meetup of the year.  At one point there were 30 YES and 5 WAITING.  Yoshi graciously allowed us to add 5 to the list, but then people started to PROPERLY drop off and we had 25 attending at the CLOSE of the RSVP.  I gave Yoshi that number.

ONLY 13 SHOWED UP!!  Yoshi had a delicious spread of some of the best sushi I have eaten and there was a lot of food that was wasted.  Thankfully 2 people walked in for dinner and found the private party.  They paid for 2 of the no-shows and we still had 10 short.  THIS MEANT A $300 LOSS TO THE RESTAURANT THAT HAD JUST GRACED US WITH ITS BEST.

I am very proud of the members that DID attend.  They volunteered to buy "Doggie Bags" to help defray the cost.  I bought $50.00 worth of extra sushi myself.  And the restaurant STILL lost money because of the irresponsible few.

Changing your RSVP to NO After the deadline IS A NO-SHOW.   One Member changed his RSVP at 4:00 PM, the beginning of dinner.  Sorry, but the food is made by then and the money spent.  By the end of the deadline, restaurants have already bought extra food, made extra rolls, etc. and incurred extra costs.

So if the few want to act like children unfortunately ALL will suffer.  From this point on, any ALL YOU CAN EAT will be PRE-PAY ONLY.  Depending on the ease of the restaurant to handle pre-pays, you will either call in a credit card or send checks to my office with sufficient time for them to clear.   They will be non-refundable.  If you make a commitment, KEEP IT.  Most social events sell tickets and you can't sell those back, so why should we be different?  For now we will continue to have discounted menu offers paid at the restaurant, but REMEMBER, they have to buy extra food.  Also with discounted offers things are made to order and the wait to eat is longer.  No-shows to these events will be tagged and the rule is 3 and you are out of the Meetup.  You will NOT be tagged as a no-show if you pay for all you can eat events and can't make it.  Since you have paid and the restaurant will not suffer, there is no harm.

Now for those who failed to attend Yoshi's or changed RSVP AFTER the deadline, show a little class and send money to Yoshi to help cover his cost for your delinquency.  Then let ME know you did so I know which of you understands what happened here.

I have been the Organizer of this Meetup group since 2008.  I not only volunteer to do this but I alone pay the $144.00 annual assessment to Meetup.com for the cost of being a Meetup Group.  Unfortunately, I alone face the embarrassment when things like this happen.

I apologize to those Members who have diligently honored their RSVP's but I know of no other way.  For those of you who take issue with any of this you are free to leave our Meetup.  For a time I considered quitting myself and Joel, our Only Assistant, was prepared to leave as well.  Do any of YOU want to try your luck at organizing our 700 member group?  Offer yourselves as Assistants first and I will be happy to let you share the burden of running the programs.

Soon I will be posting January's schedule and setting up the pre-pay options for each one.  Let's hope this alleviates the problem.  I welcome comments from all of you about our required changes.
