Sushi meetup: Confusion at Meetup.Com web site
Friday, March 19, 2010 7:37 PM
Please be aware that Meetup.Com has made major changes to their web site, and some of these are creating massive confusion for meetup members and organizers. In particular, they implemented a new feature that automatically schedules meetup events out for the next year based upon the most recent event. In other words, the system has automatically published events onto the schedule for April, May, and so forth based upon the March event.
The problem is that, apparently, the series of events is stored as a single database entry with the undesirable effect that, if I change the venue for the April event, it changes the venue for the May, June, and subsequent events. Worse, it seems that if I change the venue for the May event, this changes not only the venue for the June, July, and later events, but also goes back and changes the venue for the April event. This seems a fundamentally incompetent design, but I have no control over it.
The only way to fix this seems to be to disable all automatic scheduling of events and just start doing it manually. This may result in my canceling events already published to the schedule to which people may have already posted an RSVP, so that I can replace the automatically scheduled event with a manually scheduled event at the same date and time. I know this sounds crazy, so I apologize for any confusion.
