I do moderate the list and typically don't approve what I consider
commercial messages. In this case, I made the call to let it through
because this was not selling something. It was offering to pay
developers that opt in to participating in a research study. In the
current economy, I figured some of our members might appreciate this
opportunity.

I'd be interested in what others besides Cary and I think about this.
If there is strong opinion to restrict this list to meeting
announcements only, I will respect that from now on as I moderate the
mailing list.
