Message to Waiting List members for James Gosling's Talk

Van R.

We have rarely needed to turn anyone away at one of our JUG meetings. However, we may have to tomorrow night for this unprecedented James Gosling Talk. We did look into getting an overflow room for this meeting, but, that is not going to be possible. Luckily, we will have a live video stream for everyone else and the talk is being recorded and will be available online later too.

I just asked the 250 people registered for this meetup to change their RSVP from YES to NO in the event they are no longer able to join us. People on the waiting list automatically claim any spots that open up that way and get email notification immediately. So, please check your email leading up to the event tomorrow night and you may get a pleasant surprise.

If you are still on the wait list and want to attempt to get into this meeting, we ask that you arrive by 6:30pm. The announcements and the talk won't start until 7pm, but, we will be following airplane boarding protocol for overbooked flights tomorrow night. By that, I mean we will start letting people in from the waiting list at 20 minutes before meeting "takeoff" at 6:40pm. We will do this until Google Security indicates the room is full to capacity.

Finally, please come prepared to provide your meetup name and your meetup picture (in the event your picture is NOT a picture of you) to Google Security. We will be providing Google Security a copy of both the RSVP list and the Waiting list from the Meetup site. That list will show your meetup name and meetup picture. So, that is what they will be working from to let people in to the meeting tomorrow night.

That's All Folks, Van

P.S. I recommend getting dinner on your own beforehand. Google is providing double the usual amount of pizza, but, there is no guarantee that we still won't run out before we start letting in people from the waiting list at 6:40pm.
