the Monthly ROMP: El Corte de Madera (Skeggs)

This month we'll ride the El Corte de Madera open space preserve. El Corte de Madera is known for challenging routes, but as always we'll have different-paced groups: gentle, moderate, and - depending on the group - a faster-paced group. We'll be meeting at the Skegg's Point parking lot on Skyline Blvd at 9:45, ready to ride at 10:00.

This is a social ride; we'll split into groups, regroup as needed within each group, and ride at a casual pace for about 2.5 hours. Please RSVP to give us an estimate of group size, or if you'd rather not use meetup, email lkg_456 at yahoo.com.

If rain/poor trail conditions cause us to cancel the ride we'll post an update here by 6PM Friday night before the ride, and by 8AM Saturday if the weather worsens Friday night.

Be prepared for a range of weather, from sunny and warm to foggy/cold - the weather on the ridge can be very different from the weather in town! Bring appropriate warm clothing, layers. & we all ride with helmets--don't forget yours.

Detailed Directions

The Skeggs Point parking area is on the east side of Highway 35 (Skyline Boulevard), about 4 miles north of Highway 84 (La Honda Road) and 1.5 miles south of Kings Mountain Road. (Note: Caltrans prohibits a left turn into the lot when approaching from the north.)

    Shout out for Ride Leaders--

Dave, Josh, Gary, Kaba--We could use some help to lead and/or sweep. We've got 25 people and must seperate into groups to keep the group size down. Let me know please. Any others willing to help?

Thanks--thinking about doing the Leaf's North and South? I'm open to route recommendations. Henry

If you are still looking I'd could be down for a sweeping job. Or heck, if you've already done the route, I'd even lead a mid-level group. Or maybe even a strong group.

For March we will be riding at El Corte de madera Open Space Preserve (Skeggs Point). We will ride from Skeggs vista point, approximately 4 miles north of 84, and 2 miles south of Kings mountain road on Highway 35 in Woodside.

Hi Linda and Els, thank you for the info. Very helpful. I'll practice narrow trails and switchbacks prior to this event. I hope to feel more comfortable and confident by then.

Thank you so much Linda!!! I will email you.

Really? Linda G, you would take a beginner to Arastradero just to practice for upcoming Skegg"s? Wow! I'm speechless! That is unbelievably generous of you! I have a little question though! I'm assuming the routes have been planned already? I'm a slow climber, so I will be going with the gentle group. But do we get to do go on some technical terrain like the Manzanita rocks? That'll be cool! But either way it's ok!
