Chris Gill, Sand Hill Angels

Topic: Funding landscape in SF/Silicon Valley, what startups need to look like to get funded, how to approach potential investors etc + Q & A

Chris, a serial entrepreneur, has co-founded 8 tech based companies, has been a member of Sand Hill Angels for the past 8 years, a Board member of the Mission College Center for Innovation & Technology from 2011 – 2013, and is currently an EIR at Babson College.

Chris has experience as a startup founder, business executive and advisor to startups, investors and government bodies in Europe, North America and Asia. Most recently he was CEO of SVForum, the leading organization for developers and entrepreneurs in Silicon

Valley (see below for further details on SVForum) He is now travelling the world with his wife, Danila, working on meaningful projects in interesting places.

Chris co-founded 8 tech based companies, with 6 achieving profitable liquidity events, and has shared best practices on creating viable, fundable startups with thousands of entrepreneurs, particularly in Silicon Valley. He has been a Guest Lecturer on entrepreneurship at the National Institute of Technology, Trichy, India, and has been an invited speaker at startup and venture capital conferences in cities around the world, including Barcelona, Belfast, Berkeley, Dublin, London, Montreal, Oxford University Said Business School, Palo Alto, Toronto, and Vancouver. In addition, Chris has coached the winning teams in Microsoft’s Global Innovation Accelerator, and IBM’s Smart Camp programs, on business and entrepreneurship.

Chris has been featured in and written articles on business and technology issues for the Financial Times, Business Week, Linux Journal and other publications. He is a member of Sand Hill Angels (www.sandhillangels.com), and an Entrepreneur in Residence for Babson College, and was a founding Board Member of the Mission College Center for Innovation & Technology. Chris was awarded a BSc in Computer Science from Manchester University (UK)

Patrick Mork, Former Global Marketing Director of Google Play


With over 15 years of marketing experience at leading companies such as PepsiCo and Diamond cluster, Patrick has worked in large multinationals and venture-backed start-ups in marketing, sales and general management.
Patrick holds an MBA from INSEAD and a BS from Georgetown University.

 

 

Liz Estrella-Basilio, Managing Partner, Cross Border Communications


Liz Estrella-Basilio is the Managing Partner of Cross Border Communications’ Silicon Valley arm since its founding in 1999 (www.crossborderpr.com).  Liz is a 20-year marketing communications and PR veteran, well-known for her energy and creative out-of-the-box take on all outreach programs.  Liz began her life in the Silicon Valley, in 1992 with a startup (PicoPower), which was acquired by Cirrus Logic and National Semiconductor.  Over the years, she has built a wealth of personal relationships with media pundits and industry influencers that have become a key element in the successful execution of PR programs.  Since co-founding Cross Border Communications,  Liz continues to work closely and hands-on with a few of Cross Border Communications’ startup clients.  She believes in programs that have a good mix of both traditional and digital strategies in PR and marketing communications.  Liz is an occasional blogger for www.PRinYourPajamas.com.  She is a foodie, avid cyclist and tiger Mom.


Rodolfo Gonzalez, Foundation Capital

Rodolfo recently joined Foundation Capital as a Summer Associate. Passionate about technology and extending financial services innovation to promote economic growth, Rodolfo is fascinated by financial disintermediation, peer-to-peer funding, and bringing transparency and simplicity to the consumer experience. 
Rodolfo brings experience in financial services, management consulting, having spent several years at McKinsey & Co, and on impact investing, having recently completed a summer fellowship with Open Capital Advisors. 
As part of McKinsey’s Latin America Financial Institutions Group, Rodolfo was actively engaged with clients across a spectrum of financial institutions, including banks, insurers, asset managers, and payments processors across Latin America. Rodolfo also participated in economic development projects and financial literacy promotion, and developed cross-country methodologies to measure financial inclusion for SME’s and individuals in Latin America. Rodolfo is the coauthor of several different knowledge perspectives on retail banking, payments, and SME banking in Latin America. 
During the summer of 2012, Rodolfo worked with Open Capital Advisors in Nairobi, Kenya. This impact investing advisory firm helps social enterprises in East Africa to raise capital. Over the summer, Rodolfo worked with clients in renewable energy, agribusiness, and private health care delivery. 
Rodolfo recently completed his MBA at MIT Sloan with a concentration in Finance and Entrepreneurship. He also holds degrees in Marketing from ITESM, and International Relations from UNAM in his homeland of Mexico.
