We're going north in February to meet at the StackMob HQ in SOMA. The topic is music apps, and we're going to enjoy a mixture of demos, inspiration, and tech. 

First, Hugo Troche and Matt Farnell will talk about the music app that they built for Hal Leonard, beginning with a high level discussion of music in iOS, then digital audio basics and PCM, Apple's Media framework, Audio Queues, and Audio Units and (if time permits) a bit about how they used Fourier transforms to build a tuner for their Hal Leonard app.

Then Eric Eberhardt of Retronyms will show us their hot new Tabletop app for iPad and some of the previous apps they've built: Dopplerpad, Synth for iPad & the iOS ports of Propellerhead's Rebirth. And with some announcements coming at NAMM, there will be a few more things as well as some generally useful things they've learned about pricing and in-app purchase.

Aaron Blohwiak is building an iPad drum machine. He's offered to give us a demo of his app and talk about the Accelerate framework for performing DSP operations on iOS and also about WiST, an easy-to-implement bluetooth sync protocol/library from Korg. (http://www.korguser.net/wist/) 

Deeje Cooley is making a new kind of music visualization app for iOS. Instead of relying on algorithms, tappr.tv gives users the tools to tap, swipe, tilt, and sing to create multi-layered dynamic visual "dances" to their favorite music, and share those dances with other fans.  Deeje will give us a demo of the app and talk about the various technologies that he pulled together to make it happen, including Cocos2D and UIKit, MediaPlayer and AVFoundation, as well as using NSOperations and blocks with AWS S3 and Parse.com to create a mobile-cloud experience.

Hugo Troche

Hugo has written over 18 iOS and Android applications since 2008. His specialties are apps that require advanced use of Core Audio and application in the health care market. Among recent apps that he has worked on is the iPad application for read sheet music (Sheet Music Direct) and an application to read and edit electronic health records (EHRAccess). He has a Master's in Software Engineering from Auburn University and is currently working on his mobile ad network Appsperse and consulting for his customers.

Matthew Farnell

Matt is the writer of the highly popular iPhone app MeMap. MeMap was in the top 5 app for the social category for weeks. Before working on MeMap Matt was the Head Software Architect at Barclays. Currently Matt is working on his mobile ad network Appsperse. He has a Bachelor in Electric Engineering from Edith Cowan University. Matt is originally from Australia.
