JavaFX Layouts Secrets with Amy Fowler

  • January 13, 2010 · 6:00 PM

Amy Fowler, one of the founding members of Swing, a JavaOne Rockstar Speaker, and a core member of the JavaFX team, will be joining us for our second meeting to give a detailed talk on JavaFX Layout Secrets. If you are doing any JavaFX development at all this is a talk you won't want to miss! Note: Please try to sign-up by noon on the day of the event. We also have some great prizes to give away, including:

  • A free Artifactory Add-Ons Power Pack License ($1,750 value)

  • A Sun SPOT ($750 value)

  • An IntelliJ Ultimate Edition license ($249 value)

  • Technical books including Pro JavaFX Platform

  • Sun T-Shirts for everyone who walks in the door!

For those of you attending remotely, we will have a live video feed and the opportunity to participate remotely by asking questions. This was very successful for the first meeting, with some great chat conversation from JavaFX luminaries like Jim Weaver, Dean Iverson, and Jonathan Giles. Don't miss out on this opportunity to see it live! (remote attendees should sign-up for the meetup group to receive e-mail updates, but do not need to rsvp for the event)

  • 6:45-7:00pm Group introduction & announcements

Judging by many of the questions asked, this group seems to need a "basics" meetup coving the fundamental questions like what is JavaFX, why and when did it begin, what was the motivation for it, design philosophy, etc. Differences between competing products, is it a compiled a interpreted language, etc. Something that might even be able to be given by a Sun marketing person or manager.

Amy does an awesome job in explaining the upcoming features in 1.3, this in addition to what is there in 1.2 Javafx layouts. The session was really informative. Good job Amy. It will be more helpful if there are more demos using javafx with popular technologies or frameworks instead of all slides. Also looking forward to upcoming meetup for javafx mobile in Feb.
