Clear Skies, Local Streatham Common

Tonight looks a great and clear night, I think its a great opportunity to meet up again. I'm calling a local meet a bit before sunset in Streatham. Prefer somewhere else? Suggest it on here or as another meet! Tomorrow, Sunday should be not too bad either but tonight looks best.

So the Waterfront next to Streatham Common is my pick - get involved and suggest elsewhere if you. After a while, assuming some/most turn up, we'll walk up onto the common and enjoy the skies. Its been warmer this afternoon but do bring some warm clothing too (hat for sure, coat and gloves/scarf perhaps also recommended) as it will get cold fast with no clouds to keep the warmth in.

If you have a telescope do also bring that, and if you need help transporting it then comment below and we can hopefully get someone with a vehicle to help out.

To meet elsewhere, or if you would only come if its a bit nearer you, comment and suggest a town or even better, a location. If a few people want it further west/east, we could move it that way - Crystal Palace (next to the station, a bit of space near the sports centre) or Wimbledon (common) have been tried before. Its late notice but as the group description says, last-minute events can and will happen sometimes!

John.

Wow amazing, especially the one with the plane. But also can't believe you've got that much detail in some of the photos of the moon.

Next time you come to an event, you will see those same details live through the eyepiece...ok if the weather lets us :) That's because the moon is so near to us relative to other cosmic objects that you can really crank up the magnification considerably even on relatively smaller aperture telescopes to get those details. However, the really fine details and colours you see on my Jupiter images, only a camera chip can pick up that. But with the moon pictures, very nearly what you see is potentially what you get through an eyepiece.

Streatham is great for me, as I can get on a bus that goes straight to my house in Peckham. I will bring my 8" CST telescope and a Helios Quantum 80X15 binos.

Hey there, would like to go but the cold is a bit too daunting for me atm thanks, hope you see some good views. All best from Dan.

Danny, we always have to battle between cold darker nights (but not needing to stay out very late) or being warmer and waiting longer for the sun to set. April, May and then skipping summer until September/early October are the best compromises, for me anyway. Though there's also lots to see in the summer months and solar observing can be fascinating too during the day (if done safely with proper equipment).

Hey guys, I know the weather failed us in the end but I have absolutely no regrets, as it was a pleasure to meet and chat with you all. I think these impromptu meetups based on the one/two day advance weather reports are still a great idea , John and thank you for the excellent organising. I look forward to more opportunities and I will always bring my telescope. Stacy, Nick and Neil, just so you know you missed nothing after you left as it then started to rain and the clouds were even more ominous! See you all again soon, hopefully.

    Hi John
Been to Baker Street Irregulars a couple of times and want to make the most of the clear skies.
I can bring my 10x50 bins + tripod on the bus from Balham.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
