Note: This meetup will be at the new time and venue. It will start at 6pm, with the topical hour, and it will take place in the Clarendon Hotel, 156 Devonshire St, Surry Hills.
Peter Singer is probably the best know contemporary Australian philosopher and ethithist, and internationally renown for his controversial views on abortion, euthanasia, animal rights and poverty. Peter Singer visits Sydney, and gives a talk on poverty on February 4 at the NSW Teachers Federation. At our meetup, a few days later, Alan will give a brief overview of Singers work.
The Clarendon Hotel is on the Devonshire Street, Surry Hills. If you come by train, take the Devonshire St exit, and walk uphill for about 5 minutes, crossing Chalmers and Elisabeth St. If you come by car, the Hotel is on Devonshire St, halfway between Elisabeth and Crown St. If you come by other means of transportation it will also be located approximately there.
Could you please send me a reminder the day before the meeting? I keep forgetting about it.
Nathan will be assisting me with a review of Practical Ethics. I will talk about Peter Singer's body of work and explain a bit about who he is, what he's done etc and I'll be speaking about ethical consumerism (no, not just bashing you about becoming vegan ;)
Am I likely to find parking in the area or should I come by train?
It is close to Central station, so I'll be coming by train. But there is some parking in the streets nearby, I know quite a few members come by car.
