Our primary focus is on empowering ourselves and aid in the making of short and feature films by combining self-reliance and innovation with traditional film business practices. Cultivating and developing an environment in which great works can flourish will serve the greater good of filmmakers in New York and beyond.

The New York Film Synergy Group, whether it is about finding collaborators or sharing resources, will support related efforts by other groups and explore the possibility of holding joint events.

We will differ from similar efforts by trying to dig deeper and become less caught up in the often superficial aspects of modern culture. Collaborating on projects repeatedly and developing lasting professional relationships will result in the emergence of seasoned teams that will be able to work together using a rich web of flexible structures.

We encourage the merging of American strength and values with international influences -- this should facilitate the creation of projects that appeal to a worldwide market. Because we work in an atmosphere that is fun but also supports getting things done, we often meet at venues where drinking is optional rather than mandatory. We also use numerous locations depending on the function of the event, akin to shooting a movie.

All individuals with a serious interest in film, tv, video, theater, radio, music, acting and related disciplines are welcome, regardless of seniority. It is not necessary to have formal training, although it can be helpful. Membership is free of charge, the requirements are as follows:

• You should appreciate both traditional and alternative filmmaking methods
  
• You must upload a photo of yourself
  

Entering your full name will give you credibility and show respectful professionalism to all: together with your picture it will jumpstart your networking efforts and establish your identity. Applications without a photo will not be approved. Please do not use pictures of pets and other unrelated material. Answering all questions thoroughly will be your first contribution to the group, make sure that the style, grammar, spelling and punctuation of your profile are correct. This will actually further our cause and it helps to make a good impression in the eyes of your peers as well.

Experience has shown that folks that do not take the time to fill out our brief questionnaire are not likely to become productive members. Anonimity tends to encourage passivity and sometimes mischief, therefore we do not support it. Although the group will give you exposure and you will be able to list your projects and announcements, blatant advertising hurts our cause thus we try to avoid it.

Your information will be confidential, only the group members will be able to contact you and you can even choose to receive e-mails from the group organizer exclusively. Our reminders go out 3-6 times a month -- please follow our activities, awareness is key even when you can't be present at any given meeting.
