Tableau User Group and 6.1 Launch

Hi All,

Our 2nd Sydney Tableau User Group will be on Monday 18 July and you have the chance to win an iPad.

We are keen to start sharing techniques and showing how we use Tableau. Tableau are offering an iPad for the 6.1 Launch which seems a great chance to let people spend up to 10 mins showing & sharing each other's work, techniques, tips & tricks while we get to see the new 6.1 features and capabilities and share a few Tableau sponsored drinks.

The most popular user demonstration as voted by the crowd gets the iPad!  This will help to start us exchanging ideas & experience with each other.

The agenda is:

5:30pm Start and Networking

5:40pm Tableau 6.1 Launch Demo and Q&A

6:20pm User Group Members demonstrate your best work

The most popular demonstration wins an iPad

7:30pm Vote for the winning presentation

Celebration Drinks and food will be available, sponsored by Tableau

If you would like to show your work and win the iPad then please let us know before the User Group so we can adjust timings to suit the number interested in showing their work.

Tableau 6.1 -  A minor release? Think again, come and see all we’ve rolled into the latest release of Tableau.

  • Mobile Business Intelligence - Tableau’s new touch-enabled visualizations and native iPad app let you get business intelligence anywhere you need it.
  • New Features in Maps  - new map navigation and formatting options mean that asking “where?” yields richer answers
  • Fresh, Fast Data - It’s even easier to be up-to-the-minute and secure with all your data.

Due to strong interest, we have moved to the Gallery Bar in the Arthouse Hotel which caters for more people, I have removed the number limit on registrations

Great session - great to see all the real world applications where people are using Tableau. I hope the group continues with this level of excitement and engagement.

Great format, real users with real problems, short presos. Dimitri was my choice from a complexity point of view.

Excellent turnout last night, far more than we expected. The hilight for me was seeing how real people are using Tableau and the ideas I got in terms of different techniques for presenting data. Thank you to those that presented and congratulations to Nathan Krisanski, from Ray White on winning the iPad. The next meetup will be in approx 3 months and we are keen on feedback and people interested in showing their work at that meetup. Also keen to avoid the need for cost so if anyone is interested in Sponsoring or co sponsoring please let us know. We have a large and growing group of people interested in what we as a group are doing.
Thanks again for coming everyone, please provide feedback so we can make the next one even better!

    Cheers,

Dave and the Organising committee (Christian, Dimitri & Steven)

    Hi Dave,

I have a Tableau workbook which locates on a map the student population for the University at its various sydney campuses and shows a breakdown by socioeconomic status. Not super-technical, but I can tell the story of how I went from no experience with Tableau to a cool and useful viz in just a week or so. Let me know if there's room for more presos.

Hi Dan, would be great to have as a session, we have about 3 confirmed and a few maybe's so looking to keep all to 10 mins max. If you have a more lengthy session we would love to consider it for the next session in 2-3 months time or a 10 min spiel for this round (and the iPad).

For anyone considering presenting with questions please post here or email me on [masked]

    Cheers Dave

We had a requirement to allow clients to use pre-made Tableau Views but allow them to filter on as many as a hundred different values that may or may not be present on the screen (ie: Gender = Female or State = NSW or VIC). This was done by embedding Tableau into a website and passing values via the filter paramater in the embedded view from our external website written in PHP - is this something that we could present?
