A group for people interested in dog friendly hikes in southern Arizona. All hikers welcome! If you are bringing a dog, he/she must be well socialized with people and other dogs. Most of our hikes are moderate and best suited for intermediate hikers. Occasionally there are easy hikes for those new to hiking and difficult hikes for experienced hikers.

Some basic information about hiking with Tails and Trails:

-You must be in control of your dog(s) at all times and they must be leashed when departing and approaching trailheads. Leashes should be a fixed length of 6' or less (if you use a retractable leash set it to a length of 6' or less). If you choose to unleash you dog(s) it must not disturb others.

-The most important equipment for our hikes is a small day pack to carry your water, dog bowl, snacks, first aid, etc. I prefer camelback backpacks but any small backpack will work. Hiking boots are also recommended.

-Bring 2-3 liters of water for yourself and an additional 1-2 liters of water for your dog(s). If you are not familiar with the amount of water you and your dog(s) need, err on the side of bringing extra.

-My philosophy as a host is that I am providing information about areas where you can enjoy the outdoors with your dog(s). I do not believe it is necessary for all hikers to remain in a group. If the trail is clearly marked and their are no intersecting trails I will hike at the pace suitable for the majority of the group. If requested, I will wait for slower paced hikers to return to the trailhead. Occasionally other members will host hikes and their philosophy may be different from mine.

-If you have RSVPed yes but are not able to attend a hike please change your RSVP to "not attending". The more notice you can provide the better. Although I understand there are times when you may have to cancel the night before or the day of, please do not make a regular habit of this.
