Writing code that writes code that writes code that...

I'll be doing a talk giving two examples of a slightly different style of metaprogramming than we normally talk about in Ruby. In these cases I wrote code that wrote code (whole programs or parts of programs) -- in one case by Ruby and in the other case a more esoteric language.

Sometimes people accidentally post their profile picture to the meetup. Also people arrive early to hang out... 8th light offices are a coworking location so you can bring your laptop

I am starting a large project and can't decide on python or Java, Java pluses are - can compile, can access assembler, can runtime, cross platform, good for building drivers. Python pluses are - can add to runtime library, easy to distinguish commands from scripts, cross platform, better looking graphics (opinion). Anyone disagree? help me make the decision.

I am seriously old school, started in 1984, so I am trying to get with the new runtime languages, is ruby strictly runtime? or can you compile also?

How is Ruby for building a gui? also, how does it perform on the android platform and the iphone as well?

Ruby isn't generally a "first choice" for GUI or mobile dev. It's strengths are in web development and systems/CLI tools.

That said, like David mentioned, there are viable options for running ruby on Mobile platforms as well as bindings that exist for popular cross platform kits like WX and TK. On OS X, MacRuby is a standard framework built into the OS you can build apps with.

Rhomobile is neat. Motorola actually took that over... but it uses jquery mobile by default - which in my opinion is stale.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
