March Ruby Meetup - Advanced Javascript, Ajax, & Rails

Scott B.
Portland, OR
Hello everyone, I've updated the event for March. Come to listen, learn, & share what you know:

Topic: Advanced JavaScript - JavaScript is a powerful addition to any web developer's tool set, including the Ruby on Rails developer. We will take a look at some 'advanced' notions:

- Object Orientation - It is possible, and a Good Thing to create classes and objects in JavaScript.

- Unobtrusive Scripting - Keep your JS code out of your HTML.

- Effects - Fades, Slide, Drag and Drop, Autocomplete, etc.

- Frameworks - Rails uses Prototype. But many alternatives exist, like jQuery, Mootools, YUI, & Dojo. We'll try to survey the landscape.

- Ajax - Update content, send & receive data, all without refreshing the page.

- Rails helpers and plugins - Rails can help you do a lot without much JS knowledge.

- Other topics from you?
