Special July Meeting on Common Core!

  • July 31, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Due to the July 22 "We Will Not Conform" event in local theaters, we moved our regularly scheduled July monthly meeting to July 31st.  At this meeting we will have local experts on the issue of Common Core discuss the issue and tell how it impacts us at the local level.  Be sure to see the movie on the 22nd or the 29th, then join us on July 31st to discuss the issue in depth and hear what we can do locally.

Find out which school board candidates don't support common core.  Be equipped when you vote on August 26 which is the date school board members are chosen!

We open the doors at 6:30pm to welcome our new members, enjoy light refreshments and socialize at a meet and greet before the meeting begins promptly at 7pm.

We hope you can join us!

Here's an article on Common Core that you may find interesting. The author claims that Common Core represents the federal seizure of education. Traditionally it has been a local responsibility. http://www.theobjectivestandard.com/2013/08/common-core-federal-seizure-of-education/

Have been involved in the struggle to educate parents
regarding the dumbing down of our children's education for a very long time.

Mike, I agree with you, and it's not only Florida. I moved here from Texas, worked with the school system there and didn't like the forced college prep curriculum. It's not for everyone.

Common Core is a multi-billion dollar boondoggle for the State of Florida. We are unable to teach up to the level of the existing Sunshine State Standards; how in the world does a new set of standards change the low performance of our students? We need fundamental change in how families and students themselves accept responsibility for education. We need greater opportunity for students who are not college-bound. Forcing everyone into a college-preparatory curriculum results in a dilution of expectation for all!

    Common-Core is Rotten-to-the-Core!

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
