The problem is that if the mall permits one person or group to do impromptu performances, then they must permit all persons / groups to do the same anytime outsiders want. who knows who would pop up.
The other thing is the insurance rules that state what is and is not covered by insurance companies.

Perhaps if a few uke players were to very politely approach the management and inquire as to the rules and ask if  groups are allowed to perform by arrangement;  something could be agreed upon.

It would take a lot of tact and an open mind.
Also, do we really want to go to the trouble of meeting public expectations or just keep to the informality of  getting together for the fun of it.???

Or people could write to mall management emphasizing the benefits of free music.

Subject: [ukulele-92] THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

Hello fellow Ukers,
My name is Miles Swenson. I am a college student in Tampa and i love playing
ukulele. Its a very strong passion of mine. I take my ukulele everywhere i
go and people always enjoy hearing me play. At least up until yesterday. You
see, on Nov. 17th, i was doing my own thing, walking through the
International Plaza jamming away like a i usually always do, and then
suddenly was stopped by security. "This is private property. You are
disturbing the piece!" Is all he could say to me. I couldn't believe what i
was hearing. I wasn't doing anything wrong, and if anything i feel like i
was BRINGING peace. And i'm sure everyone else felt the same way.
So then, a manager of a kiosk close by overheard the confrontation and
decided to put in his 2 cents. He was very stern and loud but made his point
clear, that i was not and never has disturbed anyone at the mall. Of all the
2 years i've been just casually going to the mall and playing ukulele, i
never thought something like this would happen. Two more security officers
and the mall manager heard the argument on the radio and they came to kick
me out. There was a lot of yelling and arguing. Just to make a long story
short, I was banned from the mall for 365 days and was cited for trespassing
and disturbing the peace.
I don't know if anyone has any legal advice for me, but i want to take this
somewhere. I don't want to just let this slide, this isn't right.

Maybe a surprise flash ukulele mob is in order? haha just kidding.
Sincerely,
MILES SWENSON
