I hope you can make it to 'Save A River... Save A Billion'... here's why!

John S.
This kind of stuff is why local Libertarian organizations should exist...

On Saturday, Mar 5 at 6:00 PM, we'll be kicking off the public face of a new organization:  The Trinity River Improvement Partnership (or TRIP).  This is an organization founded to examine some of the huge proposals for the Trinity River, namely, the Trinity River Vision - and defeat the ones that don't make sense.

If you don't know about it, the Trinity River Vision Authority is an organization that was created by the Tarrant Regional Water District to oversee an enormous boondoggle concocted by, amongst others, Rep. Kay Granger and various well-connected government and corporate sponsors.  This 'vision' (more like a nightmare) will require that dozens of small business and land owners be uprooted by force and their land removed through abusive eminent domain tactics.  J.D. Granger, Kay's son, was appointed, without an executive search, to be the Executive Director of the TRVA with a sweet six-figure salary.  He's never done anything like this before.

The project's costs have soared to right at $1 Billion (and if you don't think this will be a multi-billion project, you underestimated the ability of a government entity to screw up a large scale project like this).  Funding was supposed to come from 1/2 local (TIFs - OVER 40 YEARS!) and Federal.  Although the Federal Earmark prohibitions put that portion in jeopardy.   They seem hellbent to make this happen, regardless of funding sources available... which likely means, we could be on the hook for all $1 Billion!

On top of everything, this will in almost all likelihood,  wreck the already delicate ecosystem, killing off native fish and wildlife - and will do NOTHING to improve the quality of the water and supply of water (The only thing the TRWD is supposed to do).  Worst of all, although the TRV could SLIGHTLY mitigate flooding in Downtown (not much of a threat now), we have studies that show that flooding probabilities will SKYROCKET in Arlington!!

Please click on the link below and attend!  We'll have some light food fare (free) and will be screening a great documentary on how grassroots activism saved the Trinity once before!!  WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!
