Unpaved Spring Ride

Let's ride the Luce Line Trail to Watertown, enjoy lunch, and ride back. Pub/cafe t.b.d. by consensus. Round trip = 38 miles. (Riders opting for less distance may elect to dine and reverse at Ox Yoke Inn in Lyndale, RT = 28 miles.)

Trail is crushed limestone, and might be muddy and rutted from spring melt. Wider-tired bikes recomended, leave that skinny-tire roadie at home. Expect 10-12 mph pace since some of us will be riding fatbikes. No-drop policy. Helmet required. Must have signed waiver on file. http://files.meetup.com/1152206/TCBMWaiver.docx

The Luce Line trail heading west was quite a challenge, but the route was modified for an excellent day of biking.

I would like to participate in a ride like this when it is a bit warmer.

Darn the weather. I have not yet taken out my new bike for a ride of any consequence, and was unsure of my ability with a pair of 20 mile rides. That would have been enough of a challenge, but I don't have the right shoes and clothes for a low teens/low twenties ride. Looks like mud won't be a problem.

Any new updates on trail conditions / tire recommendations? I have a CX and fat, I'm torn....

uuggh..I was afraid you were going to say that and from Lynn's comments, I'd better prep and go with the blue warrior. Thanks Bobby.

I've ridden this in summer to Winsted and do see roadies on the trail sometimes. Watertown is 19 miles from the jump off point so that w/b a 38mi ride. The trail is crushed rock pretty fine except where it builds up at road crossings. Good portion under tree lined canopy so expect wet. Also expect some dirt although I'd guess it to be more slick than mud. FB be fun even in summer and MTB fine as well. Depending on ability, desired energy expenditure, and real time conditions anything 32mm and wider probably just fine. Regrettably, I had a conflict arise and must change my RSVP to no.

Fixed map and provided satellite view of trailhead.
    35mm tires should be ideal.

That map link is by 36th Av N and Vicksburg. !0th Av N almost is the Luce Line trail. So, what are the thoughts on 35mm cyclocross tires on this ride?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
