Doctor Who isn't just a science fiction show about a time traveling alien. It's the legacy of a mad man with a box.
In the UK, it's a cultural phenomenon and in the US, it's a cult classic. The revival has flourished beyond planet-hopping and monsters; it also brought into being the spinoffs Torchwood, the Nickelodean-style Sarah-Jane Adventures, and about 300,000 squeeing fan girls over the likes of David Tenant as the 10th Doctor.
The Twin Cities Doctor Who meetup is a theater meetup. Once a month, fans of things associated directly with Doctor Who gather at the Parkway Theater on Chicago Avenue to watch Who or Who-related programming, and enjoy each other's company at the connected restaurant Pepito's either before or after the showing. The place is friendly, the food is good - and we're all quite pleased with the entertainment.
This is NOT a convention-style event or meetup - costume contests, prize drawings and the like are great at Convergence and MarsCon (among many others that happen in the Cities.) This is about giving fans a space to relax together. We morally support local conventions and will share resources with local groups that do that wonderful work - but we're Who fans. Assimilation is not on our docket.
