August Doctor Who Meetup!

Independence Day weekend and the Parkway showing the World Cup kept us from our happy place in July - but no matter, we are back in August.

No guys, we don't know when the new episodes begin to air.

This will also be Mike and Di's last meetup as they are moving to California in September!

Leadership will be passed off to Kevin L. and Jim Soos is the new social coordinator.

Showing:

Children of Earth from Torchwood, whatever we can fit in.

Why: Capaldi. Pompeii is only half the picture for this guy.

Parents MUST accompany children under 14 years of age. Since this is Torchwood, it is strongly advised you do not bring children below the teens to watch this.

Just finished Day 3 and starting Day 4. Guess it's appropriate that I just finished my 2nd and last beer and will have to sally forth through the 4th and 5th days with Jack. Jack Daniels that is, while I watch the beloved and semmingly sullied Captain Jack Harness confess his sins and hopefully find absolution.

will there be a DW episode before or after Children of Earth? or is it the only show for today?

    • Kevin L.

Brian is correct. We'll get through what we can today.

Yup. We're just doing the first couple hours - I'm sure BBC won't mind if you have to download the rest on your own. Realistically we are unlikely to show complete serials or mini-series in a day given our time constraints with the theater.

I got my ticket for the 25th at Rosedale. So, I could be game for a meet up before hand.

Let's meet at Digby's before seeing the 7pm Deep Breathe season premier at AMC Rosedale 14. Digby's is a new restaurant next to the theatre. Looks good, they make their pizza dough from scratch, have burgers, sandwiches, salads etc. plus a full bar. Anyone Who's interested let's meetup at 6pm or just b4. If there's interest in this I'll make a reservation for the Doctor Capaldi party!

I'm interested, but more than likely will see it in Eden Prairie.

Are we doing the series premier on August 25th at our usual place? Just curious...

That would be really sweet if they could! Lets hope. But August's meetup is happening this Sunday the 3rd and I don't know if they'd do more than one showing in the same month or if they'd be able to get a copy of the premier that quickly.

You can buy tickets now on Fandango for Doctor Who Season Premiere, Deep Breathe. It'll be Monday evening August 25th 7pm or 9:30pm AMC Rosedale 14. Other theaters too. I just bought tickets, $12.50 each + $1.25 convenience fee per ticket. Should be fun.

Hey everyone, Big Finish is celebrating their 15th year with a series of sales. Today's sale has some great deals.

Hey, Kevin, thanks so much for the heads-up on this. These are some *great* deals!

The new season starts Aug 23rd on BBC America. The first episode may also be simulcast in theaters just like the 50th was done in November. If you want some classic Doctor Who, you can look to Retro TV, but doesn't appear any Minnesota cable or broadcast TV has picked up Retro TV, yet...

The cinema money goes to BBC Worldwide. Maybe BBC Worldwide paid for ads on BBC One and BBC America to promote the cinema events. Part of the goal, was also to grow the fan base...

      July 29

    • Brian L.

BBC Worldwide at this time probably realizes that it's possible to sell out X number of seats with a Doctor Who cinema event without much promotion.

I haven't been to the last few meetups, and I've stayed away from the boards for...well, forever. But I've just heard some disturbing news: There is a growing segment of fandom that is rejecting the term "Whovian". They are referring to themselves as "Dweeks". ("Doctor Who"+Geek, because apparently watching "Glee" didn't make them annoying enough to start with.) We must take action to stop this hipster insanity before it spreads.

I've known about this for awhile. This is one of those things I'm not too worried about (and realistically IT MUST BE STOPPED should really be saved for things like tanks rolling down the street sans operator, mass murder, etc. Fandom, perspective please.)

I concede freely that this is a First World Problem, but dammit, it's OUR First World Problem and a stand must be taken. (Your mention of tanks gives me a few ideas.)

Not much! Come a bit earlier for breakfast at Pepito's if you like (it's good!) or snack at the cinema's refreshment counter. Quiet viewers sit up front and hecklers [waves] sit in the back. Don't be shy and introduce yourself to whoever you sit near as it's always good to make new friends there!

Mike and Di, where are you moving to in California? I moved here from California last August. And you MUST go to Gallifrey One! I have to fly out now but it is so worth it.

Hi Kendrea - we are moving at the beginning of September afaik. Alas, I am not a con person - I actively hate them, sorry. :( But I have a friend from Austin who attends religiously so I imagine that February will boast a full dance card!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
