Parkway Theater Special: the Departure of Amy and Rory

The management at the Parkway Theater has a Doctor Who fan among them, and he really wants to screen more Who. If he can succeed in packing this 400 seat theater with Whovians on a Saturday night, he has a great chance of getting to screen even more episodes.

FREE ADMISSION

If you haven't been to the Parkway, it's in a funky and lovely neighborhood in south Minneapolis, near Turtle Bread Company and next door to Pepito's. You can bring in a meal from Pepito's, or buy concessions at the theater. It has a section with comfy couches, and there is free street parking.

For those that want to gather after the screening, meet me in the theater lobby and we can head to Pepito's for fan chatter.

I think the parkway theater would be great for some real big Dr.who special events!

    • Karen

Yes, the Christmas special would be an obvious choice.

It seems unlikely that the Christmas special would be done there, because it is broadcast on Christmas, which means that attendance would be low since people would be with their families.

It would be SUPER cool to do more at the Parkway, but I want it to be very clear that this is not a situation I have any control over whatsoever.

Who hasn't wondered what watching live TV in a theater would be like? Who hasn't relished the thought of an entire audience ignoring commercials at the same time? Excellent warm up show as well. Good job all!!

Thank you to all who could make it. You really helped to make this night a success! Who wants to two this again?

    Hey gang, here's a schedule:

6:30: Doors open (You can get their earlier if you feel you need to)
7:00: The Comedy of Joseph Scrimshaw, Doctor Who clips and Trivia, costumes and prizes
    8:00: "Angels Take Manhattan"

There are a limited number of couches, so get there early if you want one. Feel free to eat at Pepito's. ("There are plenty of Tacos for the Doctor Who Marathon") Yes, you can order the food and bring it right in. They will let you know when it's done with a buzzer. Kids are welcome. The bar will be open for those of you 21 years and older. Bring as many people as you want. The theater seats 400 people. Admission is free. No need to donate for this event. I am doing this because I love Doctor Who and to let the owner know that their is an audience for this kind of event.

We also have real butter on our popcorn. I just love bragging about that. Please let me know if there's any other questions I can answer. Looking forward to getting my Who on tonight!

Just a heads up that none of the usual reservation restrictions apply. Because there's an entire theater to work with, you can bring more than +2 if you wish - the meetup system is all set to allow for it!

    September 26, 2012

    • Earl

That is correct. 400 seats to be exact. I'd like to fill up everyone of them.

      September 26, 2012

  • Seamus

Not naive at all. The Parkway is absolutely an all ages venue, but - be aware that they do sell beer, wine, and margaritas at the concession stand. With that caveat your little whovian should be fine.

    September 25, 2012

    • Trish

excellent, that seals it. Thank you!

      September 25, 2012

  • Trish

Maybe this is a naive question but is this all ages? I'm wanting to bring my mini Whovian.

    September 25, 2012

  • Earl

Looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can. I'll be running the show, so it'll be a little tough, but I hope to meet some of you and hope you all have a good time.

    September 24, 2012

  • Denise S

The Power of Three aired this week (last night). But BBCA always airs the previous week and then the new episode.

    September 23, 2012

    • Seamus

Got it! And the episode title is "Angels Take Manhattan" I was looking at the schedule grid instead of the Doctor Who Season guide.

      September 23, 2012

  • Seamus

Color me confused. What episode is being shown? From the info it looks like Amy and Rory's last, but BBC America's schedule shows they're airing "The Power of Three" that night - the episode before Amy and Rory leave...

Maybe I'm just being dense. Regardless, I'm going to try to make it.

    September 23, 2012

  • Travis A.

I love this idea. I don't go to the meetings because of the crowded venue usually. This should be nice.

Same with me Travis, I think this is a great opportunity to get more folks to the meetups with plenty of seats and everybody should be able to see without distraction.

Yes, you can bring as many guests as you like! It's free and there's 400 seats!
