Twin Cities Doctor Who Meetup newsletter - because there's too much to keep it short

Greetings Whovians!

There's just too much going on today for a lot of people to make the meetup, and yet there's too much going on for me not to make an effort to let you know what's going on.  This consists of  the announcements I make at the beginning of every meetup  (minus the reminders about donations going to Merlin's Rest and meetup.com fees and a reminder to SHARE YOUR CHAIRS!)

The 5 Year Anniversary Who Marathon

The bad news: BBC America will not let us do the marathon the way we want, with the Moffat eps.

The wonderful reason why: They would like us to partner with them when they do a 50th anniversary event revolving around the Moffat episodes.

Not all details are hammered out - I had hoped they would be by today, but likely will be next week. Here's what I can tell you so far:

BBC will give us permission to do a Doctor Who screening in a theater if we agree to the following conditions:

  • we have to use the programming they provide, which coincides with their monthly classic who DVD releases
  • we have to do it on the 4th Saturday of the month
  • we must keep the event totally free to the public
  • they will include us for a Moffat-episode special event they are planning for the 50th anniversary.

This may or may not mean arranging for some overall changes to the meetup, such as the day and location. I was hoping to have all that squared away by today, but I still need to hear back from the BBC. Right now the final word is that YES, we can do a Doctor Who screening in a theater
in July - we just have to show what they are releasing. It is unclear who foots the bill for the venue: if it's us, we can do it once. If it's the BBC, we can continue in a theater for as long as they do the monthly DVD promotions. It's ambiguous right now.

BEANS AND TOAST FUNDRAISER AND SILENT AUCTION JUNE 2 (FIRST SATURDAY)
Since there's a good chance we DO have to pay for the theater, we will also be hosting a Beans and Toast fundraiser and silent auction on June 2 from 12-6 at New Boston Square in Northeast Minneapolis. Most invites these days are sent out via Facebook, so if you're there, friend me -otherwise a notice will also be sent out via the Meetup.com mailing list.
