Beginning Google Glass Design and Development

Hands-on Full Course: Beginning Glass Design and Development

Taught by Allen Firstenberg  | Hosted by UbiTech | Sponsored by WeWork

A unique opportunity to learn how to design and code for Google Glass with the co-Author of Designing and Developing for Google Glass: Thinking Differently for a New Platform

Space is limited.

Goal: An introduction to “thinking for Glass”, highlighting design concepts for the Glass form factor and how to get started with the Mirror API.

Intended Audience: Developers and designers who don’t know where to begin when it comes to creating Glassware. Although we will be using code to illustrate some of the examples, many of the topics are taught at a slightly higher level and intended to get you started and help you understand Google’s documentation. This course will not cover the GDK or Android Wear.

Prerequisites: Participants do not need to bring a laptop, but it is strongly suggested they do so to follow along with some examples or references. Familiarity with Google Glass and some of the apps provided by Google will help, but is not required.

Schedule: 3 hours + Lunch

10:00 am - Overview - A brief overview of Glass technologies: Mirror, GDK, and Wear. (This course will focus on the Mirror API.) [15 min]

10:15 am - Design - focusing on microinteractions and how to adapt what we know to the Glass UX, including an overview of diagram flows for Glass [45 min]

11:00 am - Security and Servers - What you need to know about OAuth, running your own Glassware service, and timeline permissions [45 min]

Break [15 min]

12:00 pm - Cards and the Timeline - What makes up a card [60 min]

1:00 pm - Catered Lunch +Networking [60 min]
