Tech Wednesday PM (Show & Tells: Appacts, Droplet, Whisk & Loggable)

Not everyone can make a meetup in the middle of the day - some of us have jobs you know.

Bit of background - Tech Wednesday was originally started as a way for Birmingham Science Park tenants to get to know each other a bit better.

As the meetup has grown, we've been really happy to see more external people coming along, and people asking us whether we ever hold meetups in the evening.

So here's the plan - Tech Wednesday PM. A quarterly Tech Wednesday in the evening, so that all the people who have ever asked us to move the times & those whose jobs mean they can't attend during the day, can come and join us.

There will be beer and pizza, naturally.

Same format as the daytime meetup; show & tells TBC.

Show & Tells:

1. Appacts - Appacts was designed and developed with the user in mind, leaving old style analytics services behind and starting fresh. We’ve looked for a way to empower our users by presenting data to them in a quick summarised view. We are here to make analytics exciting, engaging and more importantly productive, so you can make right decisions quickly.

2. Andy Smart (Droplet) - Andy is one of the technical team behind mobile payments startup Droplet, but when he's not doing that is also developing exciting new products for himself/other startups. Come here about developments with Droplet, and his work in mobile apps in general. http://andysmart.org

3. Craig Edmunds (Whisk) - Craig is co-founder and CTO of Whisk. Whisk brings together online recipes with online shopping, so you can add all the ingredients you need for dishes you find online straight into your online shopping basket. Craig looks after Whisk’s technical side; his background being leading teams in developing the transactional functionality of many of the UK’s largest ecommerce systems.

4. Paul Rhodes (CTO, Loggable) - Paul will be giving a demo of Loggable, is an uber simple and effective way to measure and analyse your time spent on projects. http://loggable.co.uk/

Slightly inspired by this I'm thinking of organising a bit of a night out 80% Beers, 20% ideas for Friday 1st March. Like this comment if your up for that?

@Kath Any chance I can show up mid afternoon and work somewhere till 6pm? Car parking ok for that, too?

    February 5, 2013

    • Kath

Sure! Just ask for me at reception. Car parking wise, the free parking is for the event, so you may need to park in our pay and display car park downstairs (you will be directed there).

    Hi all ,

Just a quick shout out to anyone whose setting up a start up business - especially in the Tech sector - get your hands on, or at least read on Amazon the following: The Start up Owner's Manual: The Step-By-Step Guide for Building a Great Company by Steve Blank.

It will change the way you navigate successful start-up. Be great to hear what your start up is and...

Good luck !! see you @the event.

Couldn't agree more. It's a great read and invaluable for startups. I've also read 4 steps to Epiphany and it builds on that book really well. Thanks for the heads up and letting more people know about it. Good stuff!
