Lunch-n-Learn: Configuration Management

[Note: Lunch-n-learn will be starting in July, as Robert's out of town the last week of June]

What It's About

Configuration Management is the process by which a software and hardware installation may be maintained in a consistent and scalable manner. Software like Puppet, Docker, Chef, Salt Stack, Vagrant are just a few of the tools deployed to deal with this often challenging problem space. This talk will discuss configuration management, the tools involved, and how these tools will save you time and lower your level of stress.

What You'll Learn

You'll learn the basics of configuration management. We'll touch on each of the software systems listed above.  There will be a demo of local desktop configuration management with Chef and Vagrant, as well as server administration with AWS OpsWorks and Docker.

Presenter Bio

Tim Sabat was the first hire at Wufoo, which was later acquired by SurveyMonkey. He's currently working on a project called, which is the best place in the universe to learn, share and teach web development. He just moved to Bend from Palo Alto and is looking forward to meeting others in the tech scene here.

I have been growing greens and microgreens hydroponically for over ten years. I sell to local chefs in my present location. I sold to Portland chefs in my last location. I am considering transitioning from growing and selling locally to developing my "growing units and methods" into a saleable module that can be sold on line to a broader market enabling others to create a business in a small footprint and make an income doing something enriching to themselves and others. This is not exactly "techie" as described on the Meetup page. I am completely in the dark regarding "configuration management" and would have little or nothing to either learn or contribute at this Lunch-n-learn. Please advise.

Sounds like this is unlikely to be of much relevance to what you're doing.
