Could someone post question which was discussed by Vivek and Rahul?

    October 28, 2013

  • Randy S.

The coding groups were good. Thank you Rahul, Vivek, and Eugene for facilitating and helping the three groups. The questions and discussion on bit operations was good and helpful to me. For my part, what would have improved it would have been if I had expended more effort to meet the others who were there. Other than that, it met my expectations and was worth the time spent.

Normally we try to do introductions, but this time, our efforts to do that were impeded by the fact that we were in two different rooms.

How does this event work ? Would there be someone talking about some topics ?

    October 27, 2013

    • Eugene Y.

In more generality, we split the group into subgroups, one subgroup per coach in attendance (usually 3). Each subgroup does a different topic, and people join whichever one they want based on interest.

In the past, the most typical subgroups have been basic coding (example: rotate a 2D array 90 degrees), system / OO design (example: design an air traffic control system), and intermediate/advanced algorithms. Some examples of past topics for the intermediate/advanced algorithms group, which is the group I usually run: 1) http://www.careercup....; 2) given an array of size N, find the maximum value in each contiguous subarray of size K in O(N) time (for all of them); 3) using comparison-based techniques, find all the elements that occur in an array of size N more than N/K times (where K is given) in O(N log K); 4) prefix trees question: http://www.careercup....

Note the time change, everyone. I could be wrong, but I don't think I saw a time change notification email from Meetup.

    Suggestion for Eugene:
Graph problems e.g. Maximum flow, Traveling Salesman etc

    1 · October 13, 2013

    • Eugene Y.

Maximum flow and traveling salesman (unless you solve using brute force) are generally out-of-scope for interviews. I can think about other possible graph problems.

This is a live event, so there is no join.me. We do have online events from time to time, however.
