Software QA & Testing Meetup - Documenting for Testing

  • Jan 28, 2014 · 6:00 PM

Topic: Documenting for Testing

Welcome to 2014!  For our first meeting of the year we will be talking about Documenting for Testing.

I found this topic from the Indianapolis Workshops on Software Testing meetup, passed the idea to a few others, and we thought it looked pretty good to start the new year with.  "For many testers, a big part of their work is effective and efficient documentation. Even for testers who don't have compliance requirements to adhere to, often there are personal testing notes, coverage documentation, defects, and release communications that require our attention. We think it would be interesting to hear and see different ways that testers document their testing. The more examples and specific tools/techniques people can bring to the table, the better."

Things to think about:

- What purposes does your documentation serve?  Who benefits from your documentation?  Who is your audience?  Are there templates or examples you can share with the group?

This meeting is for:
- Seasoned QA & Testing Professionals
- New testers starting out
- Those interested in starting a career in testing
- Anyone interested in learning more about Testing

Here are some notes from meeting.

We didn't clean up our SOP test docs in time to share with group. I'll try get those cleaned up this week and send out before Friday.

Here is a test plan document with links to other documents including a test workbook, issue workbook, cross browser doc, and status report. They could use couple hours of cleanup but want to send out what we have to share :)# Cheers everyone!!

I'm not going to be able to make it, I'm a big fan of not going out more than absolutely necessary in this weather!

If anyone wants to share templates of test documents with the group, you may send them to me in advance to [masked]. I will also have a projector available if you would like to use your own laptop instead.

I am planning to still have the meetup on Tuesday evening despite the COLD weather forecast. Use your best judgement if you want to attend. Also, some were wondering if it is o.k. to bring their dinner or food to the event? It's fine as long as we clean up after ourselves.
